Since the thread didnt get any answers, I would simplify the question and just ask of your impressions/pro and cons about Viewsonic VX2268 as without other suggestions im about to buy it. Hope this time i would get atleast few posts..

i have no fucking clue when it comes to 120hz lcds but the black bars in relation in size from 16:10 and 16:9 to 4:3 are completely negligible. i use a 5:4 on a 16:9 (pretty much as big as the bars will go lol) and it's fine. i.e. it doesn't fucking matter. size of the monitor doesn't really matter either because you wont find a 120hz lcd bigger than 26" or smaller than 22" iirc.

I won't start here why TN panels are really really shit(!!!), but TN lowers used to recommend the LG W2363D nowadays.

for 4:3 you can try to force "GPU scaling with fixed aspect " in the driver control panel.

Finally i bought Viewsonic VX2268vw which is realy nice monitor considring its specs,usability and design( stand seems a bit too high tho). But i was realy dissapointed as i wanted to play with fixed aspect ratio, but no matter how you try to set it in GPU ControlPanel, monitor force its own scaling. After tryin different nvidia drivers and even on another pc with other system(win7 instead of vista) it was clear that its not gpu or software side problem but monitor itself,which was also proven by similar messages about latest Viewsonic models on different forums and troubleshooting section on Nvidia site,where you can find a message sayin that some viewsonic monitros have this problem with compatability to scale with fixed aspect ratio and nothing can be done except tryin to contact viewsonic service centre which is useless idea as we all know. Fortunatelly monitor allow in its own settings to set 4:3 aspect ratio when launchin applications with these type of resolutions, but i was told that if scaling isnt done on gpu side it might cause huge input lags.. [Just wanna make it clear how much input lag is meant by that?? For example if it ads 3ms to its native 2ms response time i could live with that. But if its like 20ms than it would be worse then not only fast gaming monitors but even worse then some shitty 10yearsold offiice monitor.. Hope someone could bring a light on that

First of all, input lag and panel response speeds are two different things!. You can have a 2ms monitor with a 30ms input-lag.
For example: you have a racing game running on your screen and it's refreshes nicely with 2ms without much visible trails and things. If your monitor has a 30ms input lag and you turn the wheel, you will have to wait 30ms until you will see the car turning on your screen. This has nothing to do with the fact that you see a new image in every 2ms.
(well there are some lag because of the game and also because of the GPU settings as well, but lets assume they were zero)

Your monitor has 15ms (average) input-lag in the native resolution, and there is no info I could find on the web about how much extra lag is added with scaling.I had your monitor for a short test a long time ago, but unfortunately I didn't test the speed of the panel scaling:(

I have a 8ms LCD monitor with a 8.5ms input-lag in 75Hz (it's 10.6ms in 60Hz and 8ms in IPS terms equals to ~4ms in shitty TN panels), and it adds about 6-7ms extra lag when I don't use the native resolution.

I also have a 6ms 100Hz S-PVA TV with a 40ms input lag and it adds less than 4ms when I don't scale with the GPU.

It's different with every monitor, and there is even a difference between monitors from different brands using the same panel.
I think you need to get a CRT monitor and test it if you are interested. or ask somebody who has a CRT to test it for you.

How do you know for sure that your or his monitor has precisely this input lag? You need a very expensive and complicated setup to measure it properly.

I'm not doubting the lag of your TV though.

I conducted some tests myself with taking pictures but those were only semi-accurate ofc, so irc, prad.de ,tftcentral, and sites like that yea:p

Ive had the 2268WM since launch, its flawless in all of those regards, its the SAME PANEL as the 2233rz, just better standard settings in colors.

I have no issues with GPU scaling, i use it for CS 1.6, at 800x600, and it has never given me issues.

Use driver cleaner to clear your drivers, then reinstall those gfx card drivers (not from windows update.)

Good luck, if the problem persists, you have a broken one, or a fake one

Currently playing on 1920*1080 (120 Hz), with r_mode -2.. so everything is fullscreen.

Like to try out 4:3 since I accidently had that when using fazz' config (just had r_mode 10 and that did the trick), but I don't have a clue on how I should do this.

1920*1080 = 16:9
so... that resolution in 4:3 should be 1440*1080? I tried using those values via r_customheight, r_customwidth and r_mode -1 but my screen didn't align (1 big black border to the right instead of 2 on both sides).

you need to create that custom resolution through your video card drivers.

You don't need GPU-Scaling for 4:3, just set the desired resolution and simply select things from the monitor's OSD menu.

If it's greyed out because of your resolution.

If you can't get it "un-greyed" in any resolution, you could try the following: there is a possibility to display an image like how it would be a 5:4 image displayed on a 19" monitor. You could try 1280x1024 with that. (iirc holding down the right arrow on the monitor will cycle trough available modes).

Tried with different resolutions, still nothing. Cycled through all the available display modes in the menu.. can't select 1:1.

well that's strange, and the 1280x1024 in 19" mode?

Well I have to admit that I don't have an ATI card atm, so I couldn't test things before making and advice. You don't really need powerstrip with nvidia drivers, and it was a long time ago when I was messing with powerstrip last time (making a 4:3 custom res was very easy tbh).
While I always help when I can, it would be much better to ask for help from somebody who can test things before telling you what to do. I would install powerstrip if I would have a ATI card, but I don't have one atm:( I'm really sorry.

(but If nobody helps (I doubt it), just let me know and we try things anyway.)

Yes, you need to set your res to 1280x1024, enable GPU scaling and then go back to whatever your native res is. At least that always worked for me.
