Well, it sounds unlikely, but not impossible. After the publicity Rage has had (I persoanlly haven't seen or heard a SINGLE thing about Rage other than a few comments in IRC), so it wouldn't really surprise me.

The whole QL existance can be attributed to the same id project management, in which bethesda do not have any confidence. So I can imagine it being put on hold too, right after id software management restructurization.

Yes, but only if ZeniMax management will see Quake franchise as worthwhile from investment point of view.

And if we will take into account that all Quake games has ever-shrinking user base, in my opinion, it is highly unlikely.

The only chance for Quake is presence in ZeniMax top management personalities with understanding of what e-sport in its current incarnation is, what is the role of the community and how to build a healthy ecosystem on top of the game with active community participation.

But it may be possible that all such personas are already employed by Blizzard, so again, chances for Quake to survive are pretty slim.
