I have been using this website in its various incarnations since ~1999, when it was more or less Shayne's House of Demos, but mostly at the point it was called XSReality (version 2). I have been one of the more well known users of the forums ever since then, and at times I have been banned, on probation, regular user, trusted user, VIP, user administrator, site administrator, head administrator, and director. many of these privileges were granted by Sujoy himself, as well as other high-level admins and known figures.
I have, in fact, helped Sujoy in the earlier stages of ESReality (then known as esportsaddicts) on some questions of site security, advising him a minor amount and making some suggestion on bits of code. for whatever reasons--probably because I am outspoken and very blunt--many have regarded me perpetually as some sort of troll, idiot, or flamebait-er, or whatever. this has been a constant for many years. I should not expect to be unique in this regard, as the nature of ESReality in general lends itself toward that kind of polarisation. that said, it is not unknown to me that I would easily rank among the more notable apparent "trolls" of the website. regardless of this, I have maintained an interest in this community ever since its inception, or I wouldn't be here. many times some of the regulars have tried to run me off for whatever reasons, but those attempts have always failed. I have been, however, much less active in the past few years, and particularly the past one or two, because I've been growing up and focusing on other things. still I have not deserted the site, and though I feel it has been on a steep decline for many, many years now, in my assessment originating from some administrative decisions made by Sujoy around the 2003-2004 era or so, it is in my estimation evident that things have very recently taken a rather sharp turn for the worse.
if it hasn't been made clear to anyone yet, the official "head admin" of the site for the interim since Sujoy has moved onto other things has been a guy buy the name of Demiurge, aka Yeltsin. I am not sure how he ever acquired this position in the first place as he was always universally regarded as an idiot even moreso than myself, but stranger things have happened. part of the reason for this, presumably, is his willingness to work on the website backend and maintain it, coupled with his apparent work experience in related fields and his longstanding position and recognition in the community. that decision is certainly question however you look at it, yet it is the way things are. but it has long been known to me that, while I personally could not be anything further from a "troll," Yeltsin is exactly this, and should hold no position of authority or autonomy over anything, anywhere, ever, let alone the community that, for better or worse, I've had some hand in making and have some incentive in seeing the continuation of.
I have also long been a close acquaintance of Demiurge's troll-friend and collaborator, Brandan, who has in recent weeks seemingly gone totally mentally unstable, and it is actually rather depressing to me as someone who once considered him a very close friend, but I don't live in the past, and as has been mentioned, I do not sugar coat things or distort the truth just for the sake of social cohesion. I have in fact collaborated with Brandan on many projects over the years, including some to improve upon or compete with ESReality itself, as we have always shared philosophical attitudes towards websites and the expression of speech, particularly as regards the community we both knew best--ESReality. it is unfortunate for me to see the way his attitude has shifted in recent times, and how willing he is to openly disregard the very integrity he once held in such esteem, all for the sake of saying haha, it's the internet and I'm a moron.
this is a call to Sujoy, to the ESReality community in general, and all the longstanding users of it who have any interest in seeing it through to something more than a whimpering death at the hands of some festering-assholes of a bunch of "admins" jerking off all over the screen willy-nilly just because they can. these autocrats' troll post about some decision to censor content is obviously meant at least partly in jest, but it demonstrates a completely disgusting degree of immaturity which I don't think should be so eagerly expressed by anyone claiming to represent this website, and I am even more disappointed that any ESReality administrator would censor any kind of post just because he can, even if it's for "laughs."
I have in other threads demonstrated my work with Brandan in the past on some alternative to ESReality, which you can view at: http://www.feelosophical.com/
In light of these developments, I am interested in pursuing this further in case there is anyone on this website who still gives enough of a shit about it for it to be something more than the playground of some 25-30 year old men who want to act as if they're 12. further, I call on all of you, even if you are unconfident in my ability to provide such a service, to petition Sujoy himself to wrest control from the schoolchildren, and bring this site back to where it should be.
it should be made clear that I haven't written this with any sort of clear "plan" in mind for improving the site. I do have ideas for doing so, but the main point in writing what I've written was an attempt to gauge you guys' opinions on the way things are going right now. I am personally pretty unsettled by these developments, and I have made an effort to minimise going into too much detail about personal issues I may have with involved parties, but I've done as much as I felt was necessary to bring attention to precisely what's going on--who is an admin and what they're doing--for anyone who was unaware, and to provide a little insight into the historicity of these things and why they might be the way they are.
if any of you guys feel similarly unconfident in the direction of ESReality, please let me know your thoughts here. I'm open to all kinds of input. I'm not pretending like I have any answers or that I can provide an efficient solution, but I did have to note my project that was underway for bringing about some changes I'd personally wanted to see for some time. regardless if you agree with me on anything philosophical, if you do have concerns about the site itself and particularly these recent events, we can all work to achieve change through whatever methods are available to us, and that may be something as simple as getting in touch with the guy who actually owns and runs this site. I don't think any of us (apart from the real trolls) truly want to see its demise.
