You should note that the ideal is if the players signed up for this tournament don't even know wtf a rocket jump is, nor how to bunnyjump or how to aim. That's the level of skill rookieness we're aiming for, so get your friends in there if you think they're up for the task. :D

You must be joking. If you are looking for complete newbs then why post this on esreality? If you attract people from other Quake games (and that's what you will get from here) every single one of them will start rocket jumping and bunny hopping 5 minutes after they install game. :)

However, the rules state:
When people from North America meets someone from Europe, you choose a server according to these rules:
If the player is from the west coast, you play on the east coast.
If the player is from the east coast, you play on UK.
If the pings are too unbalanced and you can't settle with a server, contact an admin and he will choose one for you.

There is also one American player already signed up. You're allowed to join unless you're too good. The worse you are, the more welcome you are basically. :)

I suggest signing up, or at least try a game or two vs someone in europe. There has been some improvement in the netcode.

Though, wouldn't be better to introduce rookies to standard tb3 (or tb5) mappool?

Anyway, I think I will sign up even though I'm playing QW since 1998. My skill level is so low nobody will notice I'm not newb. :D

The maps in the map pool are available in nQuake from the start, no need for pak1 (although there might be a practical need i have realized - what happens else when a nQuake-only player tries to join a server where DM4 is default...).

It's also to spice things up a bit, and perhaps to make the newbies have more equal practice partners as most old players haven't played much 1on1 on those maps (apart from Aero and ZTNDM3) :)

What all do I need to dl and install to play in this thing?

www.nquake.com has all you need in a neat installer. If you want to play all the episode maps and the DM maps then you also need the file pak1.pak from your Quake CD (or wherever you put it...hmhm!)

Without pak1.pak you're limited to the first episode and custom maps. Only custom maps are played in the tournament.

Sign up and start playing and we'll see in what category you rank. :D Currently there is kinda just-started-the-game category and the category with players coming from CPMA/QL who naturally have a better grasp of the game.

Nevertheless i think we will be able to find a solution to make everyone happy one way or another.
