damn right, doom 3 engine is complete shit, and no1 will use it to make a decent mod, just the same old retards that do doom and quake mods that dont really change much and are all just shit
id are nothing special, they should use quakewars idtech4 as a base for a proper dev kit like UDK. epic owns the modding world since idtech4 failed as bad as it did having nothing good but pre-rendered bump on textures on all textures
quakewars is the most complete game and engine id has every had.. you can do plenty with it.. you cant do shit with doom 3 engine, you have to fix all the bugs and netcode first and add water etc
better off with quakewars as a UDK type of dev kit, it has everything, and the modding world can make as release indy games with the quality of brink/quakewars/BF/etc/etc, and id can make some money of them sells, while tc mods can still be made for free
prey 2 uses quakewars engine, along with wolf, quakewars engine is nothing like doom3 or quake4, it just has the idtech4 name, nothing else is the same except for random bits of phsyics

I think it's cool they release it,
but I don't think it will be as popular for the creation of new games as the previous open source releases, because there are quite some strong game-engines out now like Unity3D or the Unreal Development Kit, which are almost free to use ...
I think for the time it was an amazing looking engine and it was defo one of the best graphical experiences I ever played.
I thought it all looked a bit plasticky from as shader point of view, but being critical of a shader in a real time game from 2004 which attempted so much is harsh.
