Totally agree with you, only because the guy is (rather was) rocking Quake Live tournament scene, this doesn't mean he is the greatest player of all time. Pretty much everyone from the Top 5 (cooller, Cypher, av3k, strenx) and even players that are way less consistent (like Spart1e, Zero4, etc.) can beat him if they get the right spawns and hit their shots. What's separating Shane from the rest is the fact that he doesn't have to rely on good or bad days but only on his analysis skills and his tactics, but if they don't work and someone like Cypher hits his shots and plays his game he ends up as toast (read 2:0/3:0 without a chance) like it was during the UGC tournament.

I have seen tournament wins from rapha were he misses the easiest shots and you just lmao infront of the pc but I also have seen finals where he dominated his opponent (rapha cooller anyone?) because he hit the harder shots, too. Cypher on the other hand just sucks with not spot on aim or he starts to rage if someone outaims him heavily (k1llsen, strenx). You don't see rapha do that.

I'm not really the biggest fan of rapha as I prefer watching cypher/k1llsen/av3k who tend to fuck up games :D but give the guy the credit he deserves because he is without a doubt one of the best fps player ever.

i sort of see what you're saying but i think ur misinterpreting things. rapha is someone who seems extremely sensitive to hardware and network issues in the sense that he tends to notice minor things that others dont pay that much attention to. however jumping from to this saying he makes excuses is unwarranted. he makes the same sort of comments in a lot of games that hes ended up winning. so you cant pick the spots where he loses and say o well hes making excuses.

note that at no point during the actual finals did he mention anything about any issues he couldve been having. other than one random zzz comment or something similar he pretty much said nothing at all. so i have to say this is more or less you personally jumping to a subjective conclusion which i dont think is true.

Someone from ESR made a list of events and winners only for QL, after QCON Rapha has 1 - 2 more titles than cypher, then if we include 2008 with cpma/vq3 - cypher won more in last 3 years :)

Rapha has played on form against Z4 and beat him pretty consistently over the last year or so.

There were times he would be on screen and you could see the sens bug acting up. I've watched tons of his demos and its really clear when it becomes a problem. I've noticed accel issues in my own games as well, so it's not non-existent.

What I get from all of this and watching the games:

Rapha had hardware problems during the jeeSports finals which pushed him back (mentally) and caused him to lose the series. but after watching the CSN finals, you really have to ask... what's the excuse on that day? because rapha definitely had the time to re-think everything and solve all his hardware problems prior to it. Also, this seems a bit harsh to say and no offense to any of the other players, but I think rapha, better than any other person knew that it would come down to him and zero4 in the CSN finals the next day.

Personally after watching both series', they felt like a deja vu of the IEM global challenge where k1llsen beat rapha purely due to the fact that his aim was on another level above rapha's that all other factors were negated (with a mix of bad spawns). The only exception was the dm13 game, the rest seemed very one sided (CSN series).

From a spectator point of view, it's awesome to see someone like zero4 come out of no where and show his true form, but I think its fair to say that rapha can do the same and that the rapha we saw was not the quakecon 2011 rapha. O.o

I stopped playing QL more or less about 6-7 months ago because I started getting huge lag issues. you could say that I had "plenty of time" in 6 months to fix hardware issues. I tried different PCs, network cards, operating systems, QL accounts, IP addresses, QL configurations, modems, network cables, switch, bought brand new smoking fast PC, and so on, and I still have _major_ lag issues that make the game completely unplayable, and I am a pretty high level dueler usually.

w0nk0 is wrong to suggest that rapha couldn't possibly have some rare issue; I know for a fact that it's completely realistic with the way QL is for the game to feel like total garbage no matter what you do. and rapha is way better than ZeRo4, no matter what. maybe he's rusty--I haven't watched the games yet--but in a serious competition if rapha was on form and wasn't having issues, he would win every time, no question.

Did you ever look into the fact that it might have to do with the mice? I have a wmo and i have the sensbug sometimes. Rapha seems to have it all the time..

I've used the wmo (with default drivers and accel fix) for years and never experienced a problem, so that in itself isn't the variable.

fixed it long ago, set /readonly to all your configs, ensure first that qzconfig and repconfig have the exact same settings.

the bug happens when quakelive uses different commands in qzconfig, just changes shit around completely different from repconfig. even if you use an autoexec to make sure everything should load properly, it still changes in qzconfigs

and its all kinds of settings that change, not just 1 or 2 things, i've caught the fucker like 10 times with 10 different commands that i've got in autoexec that were supposed to load the right setting, but it doesnt.

I set /readonly on everything and made sure all settings matched in all my configs and magically the bug disappeared forever.

jamalz, in what order u doing this? i got an autoexec... do i delete the ql configs, launch ql, exit and then set them as readonly? make a thread about it...

Those people have to do a little work themselfes, measuring the sens by ruler and report the change at first. They also need to give info about their setup, OS, browser, mainboard, mouse, mouse drivers, overclock y/n.......

I used to get it back in closed beta when I used an mx310 (no setpoint). I switched to in_mouse -1 and maybe it was just coincidence, but I didn't experience the bug after that. Later I switched to a wmo and in_mouse 2 and have been lucky not to have problems.

walter and rapha when he used to be known as sCar were duel partners when they both were coming up. I've seen walter beat/take maps from rapha more then dahang has. So it's just a matter of walter and zer04 knowing rapha's game better then anyone else.
