That community won't allow it. When Black Ops came out a ton of us wanted to switch to CTF or Domination (similar to Battlefield). But there was massive butthurt and after like a month it was impossible to find non-SnD scrims again.

Yes it is and there's nothing wrong with that IMO. I still like how the engine feels and looks (not a fan of CoD but I do think they make good use of the engine).

I'm soley talking on configurability (Is that a word? Dunno) iw restrict everything and basically patched mw2 and slapped a full 40 quid price tag on it.

I personally don't care if everyone has the same level playing field; the game itself is flawed and shit. It's basically mw2 but extra maps and few new unlocks and that's it.

Iw are corrupt, after cod2 they basically put their fingers up at the pc community which basically made them what they are today.

Port you make a good point with the camo stuff and bright skin example. But then again so is Nicholas saying the game is flawed. Look at Urban Terror/Counter Strike, the game don't have any unnecessary objects, plantation, fog, neither bright skins are allowed, but the gaming experience and customization is excellent. Not to mention by default these games look like picmip 10 :D

Yeah I really don't have a reply for that. I guess it would be cool for once to play these military shooters and actually be able to see what's going on and who's shooting you. They all look like a photo with added effects such as sepia, black & white etc.

making cars etc moveables with health is not hard if you make a map, you just include custom entitydef if you use idtech, nothing has to be static except for the building, and those can have walls etc blown up with damage entities and custom entitydef for your map

This is why I don't want to download the full 14GB and wait for a single player RIP + repack. Its not like you can play multiplayer version using Reloaded release right?

Recycling is not nice I agree completely with you on this point.

However I can't agree at all on the subject of camping in CoD. Campers are a normal part of every slower FPS (even in F.E.A.R multiplayer which is way faster than CoD or CS there were campers from time to time), but they are not respected by the bigger part of the community (even hated) and usually don't get good at the game and remain on low-skill public servers (and even in QL public is shit 99% of the time). So it's not a problem of the game but a small "parasite" that comes with the concept it follows. Especially high-skilled clanwars in CoD and similar FPS are a masterpiece in terms of tactics and teamplay, more that ever could be reached with Quake TDM because it's 30% tactics and teamplay and 70% aim and quadruns and because there is such a small scene where most of the high-skilled teams can simply walk over everyone else with strong aim/timing.

I personally don't like CoD because of it's heavy graphics (you basically need to play on high graphics or the game will become unbearable overview wise) and the uber instant kill grenades. But I can understand why so many people play it competitively and why it is so popular in general.

Well it's not very designer friendly tbh. I still don't get it why there isn't anybody there who can tell Carmack what the engine should be capable of doing (sadly it's the same with idtech4 and 5)

Unreal3 and the Source engines are more open to different kind of gametypes, but I really like idtech3 because it's really fast and very precise (and I also personally think that opengl is more elegant solution development wise).
I don't know if you understand what I am talking about but I hate when something is "wiggling" in a game. When you move in the map and you feel the inaccuracy of the engine. There is nothing like that in idtech3. Everything is glued to the point where it should be, you don't need 16xAA+AF and FullHD resolution to make things look good.
The other awesome thing are the nurb surfaces, and it's a huge shame they are not used more because of the crappy editing options available.

The real problem is that while the other engines (like Source) updated several times to keep itself in the competition, idtech3 is still the same how it was born.
It's Opengl so it would be very easy to make it look better with a very(!) little effort (and I don't talking about adding parallax occlusion mapping with approximate soft shadows, just simple things like dithering to get rid of the color-banding or enhance the bsp and md3 format to make more things possible).

Don't get me wrong, I really like idtech4, it's one of the best engines ever made imo (except the useless shadows), but good games could be made with idtech3 as well.

I wish they just went with idtech3 like the COD guys did.

edit: also since idtech4 now is really awesome and has megatextures, occlusion mapping and whatnot, why not updating further is just beyond me:(

The Dynamic per-pixel lighting was a huge step compared to idtech3 (instead of the pre-generated lightmaps, everything was shaded according to the lighting conditions at the given moment), and there were dozen of awesome things in the engine (skeletal animation, etc), but games advanced a lot since quake3 and idtech4 was criticized because of handling outdoor scenes badly, so megatextures were added.

quakewars engine has everything and can do it all, it would be kind of perfect for mods if modders could add map script events, but that is still in the engine,

it just needs the limit of megatextures to 4x the size to make battlefield maps etc, and allow maxclients to fuck id and tech spec, open to the modders limit

Is it completely uncapped finally and runs 125fps if I want to? The very reason I never played Prey it's because you can't uncap the 60fps limit without timing problems.

I know about the com_unlockfps, com_unlock_timingmethod and the com_unlock_maxfps commands, but they did not work well in the early versions of the game.

All I see that the developers of CoD since MW1 have done literally nothing with the graphics. Yes there are some minor steps here and there, the game looks _A BIT_ better with every new title, but the truth is, it's the same fucking graphic engine which is fucking old. It's like they're creating only new maps and poor storyline (typical american pathos and hero savings in every scene) and release the whole package as a completely new game. And they sell millions every time which is hilarious (~6h game experience :o). Every corner being scripted to the teeth ruins this title as well.

Me and my colleague did it in 4.5 hours at work. Was ok, but didn't make me want to play it again for some reason, Which I always do on id games, which is usually normal, hard then nightmare. The multiplayer experience, hmm, domination wtf with air stikes and turrets, becuase you have killed more people you get more power to demolish your team more easliy? pfff. This is like an arcade game over the net. Very unbalanced for any noob v someone who has leveled up their player to an elite killer.. TBH left me wanting to go play bf3 which is much more addictive and fun.. maybe I am getting too old for this shit, I dunno

i completely agree. BF3 failed to meet expectations of the hardcore BF2 players. It's a polished up CoD if you ask me.
