You don't need button(s) for volume control, you can use software for that. For example, this is what I use:

ctrl + PgUp = volume up
ctrl + PgDn = volume down
Scroll Lock = global mute

I have that keyboard. I got it 'cos I used the volume control on my old keyboard, but this one is shit and I never use it.. the keyboard itself is alright though.

What if you want to mute sound or change volume during a game / movie without minimizing? easier to use keys. Besides, I never use scroll lock or ctrl + page up / down for anything.

movies? vlc lets you use the scrollwheel for volume control.
quake? get a volume script and bind it somewhere.

haha stop being so pedantic :P ok, what about this one; you're playing uhh.. Battlefield 3, with winamp playing music in the background. You want to mute the sound of everything with 1 key without minimizing because you get a phone call.

I rest my case. Anyway, personal preference.

For me I just hit Fn(windows key)+v. That mutes the sound. Volume is fn+b and n, and ctrl+fn+b and n for foobar2000 volume. Play/pause is fn+f. Big keyboards are useless, it's like some fisher price shit. Get a real keyboard.

You can use a volume control script and bind them to some keys for Quake Live.

Here it is.

bind PGUP "vstr vol_up"
bind PGDN "vstr vol_down"

set vol_up "vstr vol_9"
set vol_down "vstr vol_5"

set vol_0 "s_volume 0.0; set vol_up vstr vol_0.5; set vol_down vstr vol_0 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^70.0^0]"
set vol_0.5 "s_volume 0.1; set vol_up vstr vol_1; set vol_down vstr vol_0 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.1^0]"
set vol_1 "s_volume 0.2; set vol_up vstr vol_2; set vol_down vstr vol_0.5; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.2^0]"
set vol_2 "s_volume 0.3; set vol_up vstr vol_3; set vol_down vstr vol_1 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.3^0]"
set vol_3 "s_volume 0.4; set vol_up vstr vol_4; set vol_down vstr vol_2 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.4^0]"
set vol_4 "s_volume 0.5; set vol_up vstr vol_5; set vol_down vstr vol_3 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.5^0]"
set vol_5 "s_volume 0.6; set vol_up vstr vol_6; set vol_down vstr vol_4 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.6^0]"
set vol_6 "s_volume 0.7; set vol_up vstr vol_7; set vol_down vstr vol_5 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.7^0]"
set vol_7 "s_volume 0.8; set vol_up vstr vol_8; set vol_down vstr vol_6 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.8^0]"
set vol_8 "s_volume 0.9; set vol_up vstr vol_9; set vol_down vstr vol_7 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^20.9^0]"
set vol_9 "s_volume 1.0; set vol_up vstr vol_10; set vol_down vstr vol_8 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^21.0^0]"
set vol_10 "s_volume 1.2; set vol_up vstr vol_11; set vol_down vstr vol_9 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^21.2^0]"
set vol_11 "s_volume 1.4; set vol_up vstr vol_12; set vol_down vstr vol_10 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^21.4^0]"
set vol_12 "s_volume 1.6; set vol_up vstr vol_12; set vol_down vstr vol_11 ; echo ^7Volume: ^0[^11.6^0]"

Cherry reds are alright. They are quite comparable to browns, and personally I don't notice much difference. The initial resistance of the key press makes it somewhat similar to browns. If you want a really nice feeling linear board, get an ABS M1, and take out the leaf springs. With that you don't have the initial resistance, and it is a much better feeling linear board. Though the keys wiggle a lot more, and the board is louder, you also don't have NKRO.

Here's a sound comparison:
http://youtu.be/R8gDTwBNEo4

Just note that the key caps have the most significant effect on the sound. I took off the caps of the poker keyboard and put Filco ones on it, and naturally it became nearly as loud as the Filco.
