so i'm thinking about getting a new computer to replace my first generation macbook from 2006 as my "home" computer. all i wanna do is some light video / photo editing, watch 1080p videos without stuttering and maybe i'll give starcraft2 a try. mostly older games tho. i'm not looking to play bf3 or skyrim or shit like that.

the last computer i built was for quake4 in 2005. i haven't followed up with hardware since then so i really have no idea wtf is good these days. had some help from Lsv and a bunch of other people and this is what we've come up with on newegg:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishD...r=22526867

- cpu: intel i3 2100 = $125
- gfx: sapphire hd 6850 = $145
- mobo: asrock (z68) = $90
- RAM: 2x 4gb (DDR3 1333) = $38
- hdd: western digital 500gb = $110 (fuck hdd prices right now!!)
- power supply: 380w = $45
- asus dvd burner = $20
- coolermaster fan = $10
- random micro case = $35

total is about $620 which is ok i guess. i see the i3-2120 is on sale right now, $5 cheaper than the i3-2100.

some other ideas are adding a 40/80gb SSD or so but not sure if it's worth the extra money ($95/$155) for what i'm looking to do with this computah. sure it's super fast to boot up etc (how big is a normal windows installation these days anyway?)... but other than that? also i was told to think about getting the i5-2400 instead of the i3-2100 since it's quad-core and would help with video/photo editing etc. but it's also $60 more. or how about the sapphire 6870 instead of the 6850 for $35 more?

anyway, let me know what you think. thanks in advance.
