it doesnt fix the problem but sure makes it alot better. btw i've tried two nvidia cards and got the problem with both cards.

i tried to return my monitor but viewsonics support that is the worst i've ever dealt with didnt let me.

Perhaps that's the way in Malaysia, but he is in the UK, and they can't do that in the EU.

humm, i got a 6970 on a 2233rz, and it is perfectly fine ...

All I can say is if you wanted to use a 120hz LCD, you shouldn't have got an AMD card. It seems many of the 6000 series are incompatible with them. AMD has no plans to fix it from what I can see - it's a fucking disgrace. I made the mistake of getting a 6950 and I will be buying Nvidia from now on.

I guess that monitor only supports 3D using an nvidia card, it should be perfectly fine running on other cards...

that's exactly my problem. I used to be able to turn the monitor on/off to correct the distortion, but, it just won't do that anymore, since i've had dual monitors, etc.

do you have dual monitors @ 120Hz? humm, it might be that your card is keeping the 60Hz clock settings, while you switch to 120Hz. do you get those on any 3D application running at 120Hz?

I am using a 2268wm and Radeon 6850 (before that a Radeon 4870) and I have never had problems.

You can't have 120Hz with a dual monitor setup and ATI drivers are famous about being buggy as hell.
Perhaps the registry is completely messed up now since you also had dual-monitor setup. Did you try to uninstall and wipe every single bits of ATI stuff from Windows and reinstall the latest driver from scratch?

Oh I though you meant in general. As it works fine here with a 2233rz @ 120hz and my TV @ 60hz. And well I know someone who worked for the viewsonic helpdesk and I wouldn't buy anything there :P

yea, don't really understand the technical reasons tbh, because it shouldn't matter what's on the other side of the DVI cable.. but somehow all I read is whine and rage when it comes to this model.. perhaps the EDID is fucked up and you would need to tweak it a bit.

I had it for a weekend btw, and it was working just fine in 120Hz mode, but I would only use it as my monitor if they would pay me a huge amount of money each month:)

I think it's only ATI specific, but did not really dig myself into this subject tbh. Nvidia cards have a much longer history with 120Hz and surround setups.

By the way, I can now confirm that my GTX 560 works just fine with multiple monitors at mismatched resolutions and refresh rates. If you drag a window from one to the other it does get really buggy and slow. Once you drop it on the other monitor and then pick it up again it's fine though.

Since they rewrote the related parts in the driver (26x series iirc), I have no problem with multiply monitors at all. Even cloned setup with different refresh rates are working flawlessly, which was a great surprise to me.

just another ati bug then? i've touched one ati card since rage3d, and i'm never buying that shit again. It's not like nvidia is any better, but mostly when you find a driver that somewhat works, it's stays working most of the time, ati just bugs out of nowhere whenever it wants to :S

tbh, the drivers have been absolutely fine with everything else; skyrim(apart from the shadow bug, but supposedly there's a fix for that), LOL, HON, QL, crisis, GTA, dead space1/2 and eyeinfinity.

just a real shame about the monitor :(

lol, hon? you don't seem to be playing any older opengl titles so u should be fine with ati then. rtcw for example wont work on my 4850 and i'm not the only one if you search google for compatibility issues with only few year old games.

oh. i assumed your "lol" was an actual laugh @ hon's effort of a game. hon and lol are usually mocked by esr users... they are mmo's, fairly new games.

nvidia cards have the habbit of dying 1.5 years after purchase... they use weak vrms, on the other hand they offer really good support with drivers etc, but amd is getting better on that. amd's vrm on their cards is overkill...

1.5 years? Might be true if you would buy some reference PCB cards, and heavily OC them... but I don't think any sane system-builder would do such things.

well 8800GT's were dropping like flies, gtx280's also have that issue... personally i have never had a bad experience with nvidia cards, im just saying... if you google for baking cards, you will see that the majority are nvidias, and some old ati's from the x850 era

The 8800GT only had a higher then normal RMA rate because the kids got something astonishingly powerful into their hands, and they started OC-ing it like a maniac for e-penis enlargement purposes.

That card delivered stellar performance at the time (still plays today's games quite well in lower res), and NVIDIA had to save money somewhere on the design. The card was fine, but since it was a best-seller, the problems received more attention.

The gtx280 skipped my interest so dunno about that one.

The only real problematic card I know about is the shitty reference pcb of the 570.. but again, who buys cards with reference boards?

AMD is different story when it comes to power phase designs on reference boards.

They do have great drivers. Last I checked, ATI's Linux/BSD support was horrible, which is why I've always used Nvidia. Not sure if that's still the case or not.

As for lifetime, I can't say because I've never kept one for more than a year. My 460 is a year old as of this month, and its getting swapped for a 560 when I get home today.

It's not that bad anymore. 125fps smooth @ QL, control panel to set 120hz and configure multiple monitors + antialiasing etc. Still a pain to get it configured sometimes but perfomance and features are usable.

1.5y is very quick, i think my 7600gt died after 2.5y which is still way too quick. I guess I wont be buying cheap brands any more if i plan to use it any longer than new games last on it.

I have a Geforce 4200 ti from 2003 that still works fine. I suppose they don't make them like they used to. :(

i believe that, but keep in mind that these days the cards suck so much power and get so much hotter than those of that era.. I have an fx 5200 and an old nvidia riva and those still work flawless too.

Also don't forget that those cards required very little power (bus power was mostly enough).
If you have a shitty or an old PSU, it will kill the "big suckers" much faster/more likely than the other (less demanding) parts.

i always buy oversized expensive psu's. there are a lot of people that go for cheaper psu's to save money, they only fuck themselves... i rather save some on a cheaper hdd or a lower tier case..

It's never the brand and the price, but the quality of the parts inside.
I saw shittons of expensive gamer-grade useless PSUs.. What matters is the inside, and there are not many brands around what you can trust on the long run:/

seasonic, pc power & cooling, corsair, silverstone are my target... gaming grade 'rated products' are usually the worst, look at all the bs mice out there xD

For example, the inside of the good Corsair (or Silverstone) PSUs are made by other companies like Seasonic or Channel Well Tech, Sirtec... It's advisable to trust only the brand of the parts inside (but there are good exceptions indeed, like Seasonic or Enermax, etc:)).

ocz's are made by seasonic iirc too... btw, what happened to beQuiet! they used to be good...

BeQuiet Straight Power series (BQT E5-xxxW)are still good, because they use FSP shit inside (just like many models from OCZ, Zalman, Antec, Aopen, Nexus,etc)

Don't know i never had one, all I'm saying that the 5200 probably did nothing more with a youtube video than 2D scaling and other similar simple stuffz. Perhaps it's a driver specific and you could try to disable hardware acceleration in youtube config or change desktop bit depth...etc, because 240p is working even with Geforce2 here just fine.

I'm sure it's not useless. I still have a Dell P3 machine here with an AGP Geforce2, and 240p works fine... It's AGP indeed, but even with PCI only - 240p is really nothing to worry about when it's comes to video cards:)

I've used a few ATI/AMD cards with this monitor over the last few years, the most recent being a 6850. Its always worked like it should.. but you can't do dual monitors without setting the hz to 60 or w.e the other display supports. You just switch back and forth tho no glitching O_o
