Guessing you're playing at 60Hz? If so, get a monitor that can do 120 :D

Yeah it looks like it's to less hz problem, even on 75hz you can feel something like this. My old monitor was 75hz and I felt it laggy a lot.

The best monitors are CRTs.

That should be a consistent issue, while he is saying that it is a general feeling, but gets worse during combat. If his framerate was jumping around, that would be relevant, but it isn't.

Don't forget there are specific spots on maps where quakelive implodes.

There was a problem with Nvidia drivers and OpenGL games with vsync-on which produced huge input lag. I suggested turning it off because of that.
A game with triple-buffering and vsync-ed with the display refresh produces the smoothest possible experience if it works, but - again - I had problems with it in QL.

Forgot to add I have a 120hz monitor. Also, I've tried different configs and reset everything. Also tried playing on my old pc, it might run a little better but I still have the problem.

I used to live in Nashville and got internet through my university, this only started when I moved to a diff city and no longer had that university connection.

Edit: also I have vsync forced off in graphic card settings and in game.

I feel for you, I was sitting on a backbone with an ISP in the building for years. . You were probably sitting on a very good line at the university, and now you went home.

It doesn't matter even if you only have 10ms from home to the server, it just not the same somehow. It's like when a race driver can instantly feel the difference between different tires on a given track what a "normal" person would never feel.

If you learnt to play Quake online there, the latency feeling will never go away, it will only get softer in time.
You better get used to this because the LAN times are over, welcome to the real world:p

Sometimes when I switch to windowed mode and back to full screen it doesn't feel smooth, usually fixed by switching to windowed and back again, again :p

What graphics card do you have? Maybe it's just not powerful enough!? Make sure vsync is disabled. Also check your gpu temperature.

PC specs: quadcore 8400, nvidia gtx260, windows xp, 4 gb ram

I'll check GPU temp and I'll update the drivers.

Some friends though get this problem many times in every game they play. So, it is not just you.

BC i never had this problem at my university and was using the exact same pc, I think it has something to do with my connection where I am now. I have a booster on my internet line and if I disconnect it, the the lagginess feels a little different.

I would like somehow to mask this problem or make some changes somehow to reduce the effect.

Should I try upgrading the internet line or something? Maybe its comcast being really shitty?

I get this too sometimes, it seems like computer lag or fps drop but yet mine are stable 125 too, and my cpu is performing normally during these times as well. No idea what the issue is :(

I had that too.
after rebuilding my pc I plugged the mouse into a different usb port and forgot to patch the pollingrate up to 500hz again. it strangely felt like gfx shuttering even though I had stable frames on a 120hz monitor..

ye man i just had the same problem a few days ago and since then i've tried some stuff like deleting ql tried like 10 different cfgs.. i have 125 fps 120 hz and its like im using timenudge -100 the image just gets really unsmooth at a point that playing is not even fun..

Seriously i don't understand this can't find a solution for it.. how come my game is ok and next day it's like this.. damn quakelive =(

It sounds to me like you have the post processing issue (not uncommon in Quake Live)

Can I ask if you have post processing turned on? My graphics drivers were buggy and I couldn't use post processing without my game running "stuttery" even though my FPS was locked on 125. Turning post processing off fixed the problem on certain maps, but other maps I still had some issues.

I guarantee you this is your issue. Try turning off post processing and color correction in the menu options.

If this doesn't remedy the problem, try updating your graphics cards drivers. You don't need to reinstall them, a simple quick update should do the trick and it takes what, literally no more than 2 minutes. I have a radeon 5870 in my computer and it took me about 2 minutes to update the drivers with the universal updater on the radeon site.

It worked 100% for me, and now the game runs incredibly smooth. For a while it was almost unplayable.

Quake 3 arena, to me, its way more smooth than ql.

I had the same issue, I set pre-rendered frames to 0 (flip queue size for ATI cards) and it fixed it, though I think this is placebo. Either way it helped my input lag in other games (Tribes: Ascend)

Thanks for the additional input. Have not tried some of the things listed, but some I've done.

I ended up lowering my sensitivity by almost half, plugged my mouse into a p/s2 port, and starting using m_filter 1. Also, lowered my maxpackets to 63.

The combination of all these things helped in my case (knock on wood) however, i believe its only masking the problem.
