As long as you keep losing to ~1200 ELO players, there isn't any significant progress.

Which player(s)/games are you refering to specifically?

A few questions to you then: Does top players always perform on their top level. Will they never just lazyly jump around the arena for the fun of it? Does elo = skill level?

One demo can provide evidence of progress/skill level. It does not, however, say anything about consistency. I have never said that I am a consistent performer, nor have I claimed that it is one of my goals.

None. I just had a quick view on your qlranks-account and saw you losing against lots of bad and mediocre players. I remember seeing some ~1200ish ELO players, too.

Depends on what you call a top player. A top player will beat you easily even when he's not trying to.
But actually, you have already experienced the answer yourself. Some mediocre player like that "VBart" guy nobody has ever heard of may in fact own you 34-9 on aerowalk and then lose 0-20 on hektik because of not caring / issues / whatever.

Yeah, it can. Nobody saw your demo yet, though. The fact that you won isn't any evidence for anything.

Fair enough. Consistency is a big part of skill level in my eyes, though.

Having close games against some random ELO 1700 guys in a practice match is no indication of the skill necessary to compete with top players. You just lost 40-2 against Sc00t yesterday.

Seriously though: Make a youtube video of your demo and maybe someone will watch it and give you hints on where you should improve next.

You really should lose the self-righteous attitude like "Look how I won against some random player who obviously didn't care; this means I'm getting so much better, just like I told you", if you want to be taken seriously. ;)

I need specific names of the players to be able to comments on them. Like I said before, a low elo could very well mean either new account or old schoolers playing a random game. I've played gainst skrotor and wry, my brother and a close friend of mine. Both of them have a low elo but are tough to beat because they have played quake since around 96-98.

Also, I must admit that I am guilty of not trying my best when facing a player I consider not to be a very tough opponent. This is something I need to work on. I will make a youtube video with a demo recording soon enough.

Then let's take the matches against "dance" as an example. He's lost 70% of his matches, with the average oppontent he loses to having ~1200 ELO.
Clearly, he's a bad player. You lose to him. What does this make you?

That's your attitude problem all over again. If people are tough to beat for you this doesn't mean they are really good. it just means that you aren't good. Almost any player will be tough to beat for you.

Now you are being overly harsh I think.

Do you know who dance is? Have you seen him play? He is a VERY competent TDM player from Sweden that has been around for a very long time. He can hold his own in duel aswell even though he rarely plays it. Why are you so hung up on elo. It's just a number. Unless it's below 1000 or above 1600 it doesn't say all that much now does it?

Elo doesnt necessarily say that much about skill, there is quite a few ppl who are only good on one map who have high elo rating. And it seem to be many "top players" also playing on new accounts, aswell as old school players who only play the occasional duel every now and then.

Trying not to make it look like I'm just boasting and/or trying to make someone look bad. I realize this means next to nothing. Let's just wait for demo approval.

Edit: Of course I was happy about the result because I really felt like things are coming together in a tremendous fashion, much quicker than I had expected. I am only human and humans brag about their accomplishments from time to time ;)

Don't really need advice. I learn so much in each game I play that it would probably be counterpruductive to introduce even more new information at this stage. But I will keep it in mind. Skype sessions are always welcomed.

Do any demos get turned down?
