I'd like to see at least an option on this, as some people might prefer the way that it is.

so admins just have to approve one instead of ten comments for each new account / retard on probation, giving them more time, (to approve funny gifs, for example :D)

Good ideas, but i would give new users and guys on probation a limit of 5 to 10 posts per day. Not everyone that is new or is on probation is a troll, there are some legit people with that status, and limiting their post capabilities like that could discourage them from ever coming back.

If the first one is implemented, then the "trusted user" status should be handed out more liberally WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE or at least have an intermediate user level for people who aren't "trusted" but don't warrant any limitations of the sort.

One other improvement i would propose:

- An actual ESR search engine. Google is cool and all, but it's unwieldy and clunky.

sort of. the current codebase gets the bugs fixed and essential stuff done if it comes up but also some features that are considered easy enough to add. everyone agrees that any improvements should (and by 'should' I mean 'can' because the existing codebase is ineligible) go into the new codebase, but there is no money, so that's being worked on a sporadic base, but the suggestions are noted.

clean up? there would be absolutely nothing left. it's almost as clean as it can be considering the audience and demographics. content is not 'extracted', it floats to the top, if it exists to begin with. memento_mori is a good example. we need columns, interviews, match dissections in the coverage, etc. the current system is technically well optimized for promoting all this content to the top, when there is any. the problem is that there isn't.

let's start with you. is there any other game besides quake that you like? why not write some news about it? this is a community enabled platform, everyone should just try and bring things to the table and those are not interested should just move along and post what they are interested in, instead of promoting some sense of exclusivity to a strict topic or just quake.

all of your suggestions will effectively make esr more boring / dead than what it already is tbh. no real site admin would consider them as it would highly discourage new users from continuing to post here. im sure alot of new users who join are already turned off by the current fact that their first 10 posts need to be approved, so the first 2 suggestions are just lolz.

this is not standard in all technical specs, in all the browsers, on all but a handful of websites. it's not OKEY to open a new window when someone clicks a link, and this is a sure sign of a shitty website.

Modern browsers open all new 'windows' in new tabs, and it IS NICE to have target="_blank" if the link you are clicking on is taking you to a different website. People on ESR (or any news-site/forum) don't want to leave ESR permenantly to view ClanBase groups, the latest fragmovie on youtube, the latest interview with cypher on sk-gaming or *whatever*... people want to check it out, close it and be right back where they started.

There is none. Its just about general laziness imo. You're right about the "expected behavior" and stuff, but when people start to use a website as a hub for other things (like checking out lates movies, ESL interviews, clanbase, etc) or use it as a news resource, the demand for target=_blank becomes valid. For example, every news site I use opens external links (links pointing to other websites) in a new window. Imo its safe to say that people are expecting this behavior on similar sites and therefore don't use middle click out of habit.
The "We stick to the rules! Use the internet like its supposed to be used!" argument seems narrow-minded to me.

Slightly off topic, but it would be nice to have a place on esr where streamers can post when their streams are up and sort of a little streaming schedule for events like nationscup, zotac's or hoq for example.

I really hope that it's in the works.

fwiw I much prefer all links opening in the same page/tab by default. That way I can choose what I want my browser to do when I click the link, with no extra effort involved. As you said, it doesn't even take a control-click or shift-click these days, just a middle-click.

yes, that would be the new cache, it wouldn't show up for 15 seconds. the site has been much faster with it. i'll see what can be done with seeing edits immediately.

if its only 15 second, I think it's ok.. the cache is probably there to speed up things, and 15 sec is more than acceptable imo.

Something else: There are no imsg notifications atm. I was lucky enough to check my inbox and found a message, but it was no notification about it at all..

Also: I have to "use'" the reply notifictaion twice to get rid of it.
I receive a notification about a reply (only 1 in this example).
I click on the "1rp" thing at top right (next to my nick) which takes me to a screen with the list of the replies.
I click on the reply which takes me to the thread , but the "1rp" remains at the top and I can click on it again, which takes me back to the - now empty - reply listing screen, and the "1rp" finally disappears.
Dunno if it's normal because this happened many times before so perhaps it's something maintenance related

Of your suggestions I would consider the first one essential, the rest minor D:

some of them could come in handy though, such as a stream box like the one in liveql.com, submenu with embed chats (most stream watchers don't join IRC chats thus missing half the show), a link to the ESR wiki (dk if that prospered), etc.
