We are currently working on a new main page, which needs a few images. So making small banners, teasers, etc.

Of course, there is more than only the photoshop part to do ;)

A lot further as now... QL belongs currently to the worst sections, so no wonder it's getting wiped out of EMS as well. Things could change for the next season, though we do need support of the community.

cause esl ql admins can't do shit, it's always "ask anthony" or some turtle guy and wait weeks for reply.

This probably depends on your question... Normally admins could help out, only if it is prize money related we are not aware of things and then the correct person would be TheRogue or an other TE worker.

What some of us seems to forget is that ESL is the only competition which could offer something in the long run e.g. EMS, IEM. For those who saw the EMS IX Final between strenx and k1llsen, it has been a while we have seen such an epic match. Generally seen, we reach more with playing Quake on ESL, than anywhere else... we (ESL) provides the resources to get an active game and section e.g. VERSUS, ladders and Cups and now we need the community to follow us.

When it comes to leagues and organizations for Quake Live, especially the ESL, I think we have a typical "chicken or the egg" question.

You can have two versions of ESL:

1) Community driven organization with cups and leagues as it has been for a while now. No big ESL events for the game, no prize money etc. No one in Turtle Entertainment cares for the game, only the voluntary admins do.

2) EMS, IEM, ENC, all the big Turtle Entertainment projects, where people care for professional coverage (Jay&Joe) and for prize money etc.

Is there a way to have the second model? Yes, but it's hard for a community like ours. Organizations only invest in things if there is something to gain, so all we would need to do is make them gain something. If our best gamers were active not only when there is prize money involved, if the community would stick together to advertise the game, watch the streams etc, people -- for example at Turtle Entertainment -- would see a reason to throw money at us.

Just look at the QW community. We, the QL community, still have chance IF we BUCK UP and stick together.

Have a motivated guy like Memento_Mori on stream with someone like noctis, covering a show match between two pros. Have a cup or two where the big boys play just for fun/fame, actively, keeping schedules, not dropping out, with good coverage and many viewers. And there is a chance that the next cup will be called IEM or EMS, that the guys with the money care again.

WE are the chicken. All we need to do is lay an egg, on schedule, with people watching.

we did get the chance which peaked at DHS. we had a peak amount of sponsored teams in ql ever, but all of them dropped the ball and stopped playing immediately after DHS. the ql community is in such an unhealthy state it is almost incomprehensible. the old pros are the biggest cancer i've ever witnessed in any online community. they showed up for dhs, took the spotlight, disapperead and a) failed the sponsors b) failed the community by not keeping up the activity. QLTDM had a huge hype going into DHS and the tournament was a huge success aswell, only the players themselves failed to comprehend the responsibility they had been given.

just imagine for a second if all the organizations took on teams that actively play online, long before and well after DHS instead of taking some bitter old faggots who use QL like an ex-gf for a booty call. we'd have 10 clans from recognized orgas playing eurocup for example. while there would be no monetary gain to begin with, these big names attract attention, which spirals into more attention. it would create a boost of interest which would only help not only the community competition but push quake closer to other esports.

the very best players are not active, and only show up when they deem their effort is compensated well enough (basicly show up to collect the prize money) these are also the players that hog all the sponsors (see DHS)

then we have the online div1 players, quite active and still play for the fun of the game. however there is absolutely no justification to put in more time right now for them, since to improve to the level of the upper echelon of players for no apparent gain would take incredible amounts of time. also the fact that no matter how well you do in online qltdm, all the old pros with their connections and what not will get the sponsors for any possible LAN's etc. and i have personal experience from this, we were talking about a organization deal at some point but "xxx pro is making a mix team instead for this tournament" happened

not to mention that there are hardly any teams to practise properly against. which again stems from the fact the best players have no interest in anything else than the spotlight and/or easy money/prizes, so its super hard for current div1 teams to push themselves noticeably further

this is the problem actually, i think ql community as a whole is pushing a lot and we've done great progress in the last 2 years (talking tdm here) however it doesnt matter what we've done when all the spoils are being gathered by people who are not part of the community and then just disappear, failing everyone. they need to either a) fuck off and let others have their chance or b) do their bit

about ESL specificly, i think moving from tdm 4v4 to 2v2 and later to duel was a huge huge mistake. the issues with tdm 4v4 delays were all associated with certain teams (and everyone knows who we are talking about here) that admins were pandering to and basicly let them do whatever they wanted. obviously these issues followed to the other modes aswell but for some reason 4v4 got highlighted and it was said to be the major reason to move away from it. when it was obviously the mode that brought the most users to the site and probably had most viewers total as a lot of the games were covered by community streams instead of COMPLETE SEASONS going by without _anyone_ noticing, besides the grand final.

i even saw noctis crying on irc about tdm being in the same state now as it was before DHS hype, well i wonder why? (personally i actually think the community side has grown even stronger with new, up and coming teams forming and actually rising in the ranks)

Just look @ current team lineups for HOQ-S02. Until about a day before the seasons first matches would be played teams were throw between divisions. So you now have div 1 full and half of div 2 belonging to div 1.
Teams like xeno, 2K, dots, play. I mean 2K were in the last EC as I recall. did good on DH.
Still without time and more effort i making teams and picking up new players nothing is going to move.

I fully agree and not to take anything away from your post, but I've said and thought similar things for many years. :)

I do also understand that many players have different priorities and such in their lives, that makes it harder or impossible to always be around. That goes for individuals, but in general I think most teams and players simply don't plan or make time for anything anymore.

I would also understand if you don't want to play at all or if you quit... but I really dislike what you just brought up, when players don't attend or contribute ANYTHING to the community leages or online leagues and to the players and then expect to have +10k(money) tournaments a few times a year and if not, they wonder why...

We need teams and clans that stick together for the right reasons and not mix teams who form for 1-2 weeks and this way you create the tension / drama that quake currently lacks. With this I mean competetive spirits rather than trolling ofc :)
