A few pointers to make proper front page posts:

- inline image size must be 180x120 max
- links shouldn't be in hide tag
- embed video should be in hide tag if not the most important thing in the post
- only admins can attach a schedule to a post, no need to add that "Scheduled" line in your post, it's best to give the date in your text anyway.

Oh, well it wasn't actually supposed to go live yet. I was waiting to do the last of it until the image was approved. Is it possible to edit a draft without posting it? The format was mostly a cut/paste of my old Proleague posts.

It's called "The International", and it happens once per year. Last year already finished, and this year has not started yet. I had considered trying to do coverage for it, if there was any interest.

game seems unwatchable to someone who doesnt play it. i mean i watched sc2 streams before i played the game and it took me maybe 2 or 3 games to figure things out in terms of races and units and stuff. but most of the dota commentary might as well be in chinese. all those spells and runes and shit. pffffft.

Which is why I don't understand how these games dominate the esports scene nowadays.
Quake (or any fps duel game) is probably the easiest thing to watch for a large audience, 2 players, 1 arena and they try to kill each other, items/timing etc are the only thing slightly complex and it is explained litterally in 30 seconds.
Whenever I tried to watch some LoL or dota it was always too frustrating to keep on watching.

But I guess as of now the formula is : popular games leads to lot of players which leads to lot of money which leads to lot of cashprize which leads to lot of stream views because of the large amount of players. I doubt that anyone who doesn't play the game at all would watch some LoL or dota as opposed to some quake or even painkiller back in the days.

Because it is super duper FUN! Play the game, get competent at it and you will have a blast. I only played dota 1 and there was nothing like blazing a spliff, playing some dota and zoning to good music.

Edit: Quake is only fun to watch if you know how the game works, if you don't it just seems like mindless spamming. So it might be "easier" to figure out what is going on (superficially) but you do not. you cannot, appreciate nuances. As a result it gets boring, very fast.

Coming from someone who doesn't play these games, Dota/HoN/LoL just look like a bunch of little dudes flinging magical shit at a bunch of other little dudes. I always found FPS games that I don't play trivial to watch on stream, because it's simple to look at if that makes sense.

I think the 3D immersion in quake is the problem ...
of course the rts games are also in 3D, but from top down perspective, it"s almost like 2D ...
I had friends who would get headaches if I showed to them Wolfenstein 3D ...
2D takes less concentration and is therefore easier to watch ...
but of course it"s also an active community factor ...
blizzard being a company developing games with good single player have gotten more gamerhearts than id software games that were more tech demos than actual games ...
