When i watch zotacs, streams , vods and frag videos of QL and play quake, i always think, WTF QL was kicked for from IEM? Why they couldnt leave QL, but make the prize pool a bit smaller, so that stupid LoL would have been added.

people outside of the fast fps community hardly know about QL, theres still people wandering around in youtube asking if its Q3 or what and the game being out since 2009 ffs! no wonder...

tier slumers so new players quit game. QL was popular a lot more when there wasn't pro/premium subscription. Still remeber when there was random ca public a lot players where in spectators. Not anti cheat which is fucked. But QL atleast brought some new players to community. And yeah community seperated when QL came out and when pro/prem subscription came out. The game isn't so popular as LoL which isn't so hard to learn not like quake, but its about player base, its all about money and sponsorship. id software should pay more attention to community. If fifa had more players in zotac than QL it's fucked. Game isnt popular. But like cs it has a lot sponsors and tournaments and a lot new teams coming and play not like every dh cypher in finals all time or rapha its just same and same. When i watched last DH on twitch tw chat a lot viewers said wow nice cool whats this game that just show that no one is publishing game.

CS analogy is actually bullshit. Yes, there are shitloads of teams, the game is popular, etc. but still you could count winning teams on one hand - SK, ESC, fnatic, NAVI, sometimes mouz. Last year only three teams were winning everything - ESC, SK and NAVI - just like rapha and cypher. Although they have a greater player base, they face the same kind of problem - same teams winning everything all the time.

same teams winning every single time is not a problem - its reality...


in 10 yo game its hard to catch up with ppl who are praccing 3-4 days a week for few hours... especially in team based game...

And u answered your question in your topic "WTF QL was kicked for from IEM? " when u watch frag movies u can see how many views does it have hmm not so much only cooller's frag movie has +100k views. Quake isn't popular as we all want to. And its sad that players who making frag movies making half year or more and they only get few thousand of viewers.

Part of the problem is the style of the tournaments which deter regular players to participate. The most played maps are ztn and campgrounds with dm13 and t7 as distant third and fourth ( my perception at least) but participants cant be sure what maps they are about to play if they sign up.

Tournaments like zotac should have fixed maps each round until top 8 where the pick system is more appropriate. This way new players know what to expect each round and can plan accordingly. This style is used in some other games successfully and I cant see any good reason not to use it in quake.
