Dude... there are like no tournaments. I mean this is great news for him but what's the point of joining for a QL or even a DUEL division when this shit is the most un-lucrative ever. Ever.

ESL is already feeling pretty intent on ditching Quake, when zotac follows suit and has it's last cup a la G-DATA I'll be the first to laugh at all the kids wasting their time on a dead game with dead competition. These cups don't foot the bills and I don't see any esports team sponsoring people who can't make cash off the game they play. I think rapha is now the only sponsored American. I mean... it's kind of sad. Europe has plenty of sponsored people but why bother, this game is a waste of time.

it's not about making a living. I assume he's young so he still goes to school. Whatever he makes is extra for him and it doesn't cost him anything. If he makes big enough waves, maybe his sponsors send him to a LAN such as DH or Qcon. There is no living to be made playing quake.

The same kind of social cues in everyday life apply online too, e.g., picking up on an uncomfortable vibe when telling a joke, bringing up a topic at the wrong time, using profanity around people you don't know well, etc.

You hit the nail on the head here. It's cool that he gets picked up, but it's really a win-lose situation. MySports gets their name on his clan tag, and he gets nothing. He's not going to make any money playing, let along enough to give him salary, money to travel to LANs, hardware, etc.

technically everyone is one of the best players in this game, depending on how arbitrarily you section everything off. if there are 20,000 duel players, and someone is top 15,000, they are one of the 15,000 best, and so on... Reaper is definitely worthy of a top 100 rating. I'd say top 50 is quite likely. top 30, probably, when he's on form. top 20? that's probably about the limit, but he's not far from it for sure. so no, he's not strenx or Cypher, but he's still one of the best.
