anyone else notice the recent ESR lag? lately i find myself having to hit the submit post button twice before my post shows up, and then i end up spamming dupe posts by mistake..
"so if you [+] somebody, you also have to wait if you want to post."
what happens when you [+] somebody is that the thread loads and caches, so it will remain the same for 15 seconds. you can post, but if you post, submit, and load the thread within these 15 seconds, it will be the same. there should be no other delay or queue, or relation to a particular action that caused you to load the thread.
like now, there was a comma in my post above like this.
".....with the changes btw, if they...."
I waited several minutes and removed the comma, and waited another 15 minutes to make the change appear, but nothing happened.... I pressed edit again, but the change was there, so I just put a space somewhere and immediately deleted it, and clicked on "edit post", which finally made it happen.
that could be another, real bug! what do you mean by 'waited', did you refresh? the comment thread really should be refreshed after 15 seconds. the sideboxes are cached for 5 minutes. so nothing should really be cached for as long as 15 minutes, unless its something with the browser...
No, literary waited since I was in the kitchen making a tea which probably took about 2-3 mins, then (after I made the change) I was chatting with somebody for about 15mins.
I did not try with other browser
OK I think I found out something important about this problem.
I came to ESR, and red a post from Weird, and attempted to reply to him.
On my clock I pressed the the post button at 17:48 (central European time). It's 18:14 now and the post (which can be seen under my profile btw) is still not showing up in the thread.
What is very strange that at 17:56, two replies showed up on the upper right corner, and indeed, I found one there from peterg (dunno if the other one was from an ignored user, or it's just showed up because of this bug).
So I modify my "1 slot" theory a little now, and I say the perhaps only one thing can happen globally with each user in every 15sec (or whatever long is that time period), so it's not only about my actions, but actions affecting or related to me are also count (e.g: if I receive a message, I can't post any or do anything else for x amount of seconds).
yeah that helps, if it is about notifications panel. unfortunately this site doesn't do anything globally, each panel or feature is a stand-alone query, which is why it's so slow, so the problematic one has to be found.
ugh, all you have to do is wait at most 15 seconds after you have opened the thread to which you have replied. you have to be really spamming the site to beat this time. i will get rid of this.
