Welcome to the 1% club! The netcode is working quite well for the rest of the players, so it would be a little selfish from us to demand a fix for this... Just adapt to the situation, and try to enjoy the game as how it is;)

Two possible explanations:

1. (This always happens to me) you play pickups against good players on ping ~30 and on servers with ping 50-60 you play with noobs (read: non-cyborgs).

2. You've used timenudge on ping 50. It aims for you!

Some more serious explanation:

Weaker opponents (like Weird) have problems dodging your shaft if it's not pointing very close to their virtual body.

On higher ping, they will see your shaft away from their body even though it's hitting PLUS it will keep hitting for some time (50+25 = 75 ms) after executing a dodge.

So "reactive" dodging is going to be worse if you play against a high pinger, compared to fight between two low pingers.

The question is, who uses this kind of dodging (other than Weird) and why he won't put a rocket in your face. Recovering from rocket knockback on higher ping is long and painful, so high pingers, while hard to dodge, are easy to counter using different measures.

Yes only "crap players like me" dodge based on what they see... the other player don't dodge or just always dodge the same..... Why exactly is it that all players that play like that get owned on lan?

I don't see why I should play worse (aka not dodge) in order to rape high ping aim only ppl. I can but I won't.

Answer is cooller, cypher, av3k and fox (for sure). I also think that rapha, dahang and toxjq play like this.
Actually the only active good player who (for sure) doesn't is Strenx.

I was only referring to your exaggeration about the actual shaft model of the LG. There are other means to know when you're being hit (screen damage, sound, HP going down on HUD). You CAN learn to forget about the shaft/beam and dodge according to being hit or not.

But the remaining problem is that when only you see enemy _starts_ hitting you, you react and dodge, the enemy will probably hit 2 more cells compared to LAN play. So you can get into a trap of re-adjusting your dodging to getting hit while you're not getting hit, into getting hit again etc. :)

And strenx is online hero and this thread is about online play. Everything fits.

I don't dodge based on where the beam is aiming at... I dodge based on the rotation / rotation speed of my opponent (which you can mainly see due to the angle his weapon has with the part of the model you can see).
The thing that I can't get used to is how for each opponent I have to dodge earlier / later than vs the previous one. That it's not accurately drawn on my screen doesn't really matter... as long as it would be consistent versus all opponents.

Many people don't know this but I still outaim many americans on usa servers (where I ping around 120). This is purely because the difference in where I have to aim is stable (although theres a large difference between instant and projectile weapons which I have to get used to when I myself switch ping).

rl is all you need with 25 ping

There you answered it for yourself. Welcome to online gaming. Hitbox isnt exactly on the model all the time like in any other game but when you play you have to adjust to it, "find it".
Like for example in COD4 even tho its such a slow game you get this alot but hitbox is huge so its not that noticeable. Better example would be battlefield 2 where for example i would sometimes shoot whole clip in enemies head with no effect, we called it "dusting" cause you get client animation (dust) of hit but he lives on, also slow game and one of the worst netcode ever.
That said quake live netcode is one of the best ones believe it or not and like in any other lower ping delivers better experience.

because hitbox was more or less 2x bigger in q3 depending on which angle you hit the hitbox.

try war§ow, good netcode, maybe even better than q3/CPMA

When your ping is 30 ms lower, try INCREASING your s_mixahead by 0.03.
Yes I'm serious. I'm very sound sensitive and I found out that adapting the sound to the ping conditions helps me a lot. This is mostly because I get a consistent gaming experience among all pings.

it might have less to do with ping and more about who you are playing. ql netcode is kinda weird though, i wouldnt be surprised
