And then we can mold the world with our very own hands to rid it of hunger, disease, social differences and make it a beautiful painting in which all our children live in everlasting peace. ;_;
I lost every bit of confidence I had on that company after seeing what they did with quake live. We already knew they are incompetent, after 10 years of constant failures, but with QL they crossed the line.
They were negligent in every single part of the process, made enormous mistakes along the way and in the end they are not reliable enough to put money into their projects, which is actually what Zenimax thinks considering the recent layoffs.
If you are going to sponsor the making or improvement of a fps game just gave some cash to other companies or small groups, such as the cpm developers, or finance a server of your favorite non popular game, which includes unofficial QL servers since id does not accept server request. Or you could buy some hats in TF2, which is what I do for the gran turismo series hoping GT6 is going to be much better than GT5.
talking about QLOP servers (or whatever they are called now), anyone knows which countries are running unofficial servers? I only know brazil has one and that there was another in India, both which are completely understandable since id constantly denied their petitions, particularly for Asia..
I wouldnt give them money to update a ten year old game. I would rather pledge money to an ex id employee ( Hall, Romero, etc) who wants to do a new shooter.
I think it's a great idea, dunno why I didn't think of it sooner since I already knew about kickstarter. however, I'm not sure QL is the best place for this to be used. But, I think maybe for quake 5 this would be good, particularly if they announce at one time that they won't do it. then we can help fund them to get them to make it
I suggested something like that ~1.5 years ago on the quake live forums when ql left beta. Basically every subscriber would gain a certain amount of tokens that he could spend on new features, let's say 1 for prem and 3 for pro subs. More expensive features would require more tokens.
e.g.
3wave maps - 10000 tokens
ponies with hats - 500 tokens
anticheat (punkbuster license for 1 year) - 4000 tokens
But yea, like 99% of people who posted suggestions on the ql forum I've never received an answer from the id staff.
