why don't you just switch between the two ethernet controllers kinda like people with vpns do when torrenting?

Because I've started to stream while I play, and the DSL wouldn't be able to handle the upload connection. If I was playing without streaming I'd do exactly what you said, I'd just disable the cable ethernet connection when I wanted to play. Plus I rather have a "set it and forget it" solution rather than constantly disabling and re-enabling it.

I'm pretty sure ForceBindIP will work, I just can't test it :\

I might be able to test this for you. I have DSL and Cable at home currently. I could try this on my laptop, one wireless and one wired. I might not be able to get results until Monday though.

I'm mostly concerned about Tribes Ascend. If you can't run the game then no problem, but if you could test it with that I would really appreciate it. People reported some issues with Win7 64 bit, from my understanding UAC needs to be completely off, and you might run into a few issues. If you do let me know, I'll try to help you with it.

don't really understand what exactly you want to do/why (didn't read, cba), but the problem is simply a matter of your computer's network stack being unable to determine where to route packets. all you need is some sort of "router" device with dual NICs, and I didn't read about ForceBindIP or whatever but just judging by the name, that sounds like software that tries to interface with sockets APIs to bind specific applications' outbound connections to local adapters. that won't work with a gateway set-up; you'd need to connect your computer itself directly to the internet.

you ought to be able to set up advanced routing and NAT type stuff with any of those consumer router devices, if you flash with DD-WRT/OpenWRT/Tomato or something like that, particularly if you're able to directly work with iptables, but the specifics of the set up you'll habe to figure out for yourself. it's basically just something you need to read and learn about; there's not really any prescriptive information I can give out. it might be easier if this is your desired set up to just use an old computer and put Linux/BSD on it, or maybe some minimalistic firewall/router distribution like m0n0wall or smoothwall. all depends on your needs really.

with Quakelive, if you do have multiple interfaces set up on your desktop computer, you ought to be able to use something like net_ip to bind the outbound connection to a specific adapter. also, with Quakelive in particular, at least in North America, I believe they use some server contractor whose addresses are all within the same general IP space, which I don't know off the top of my head, but it's something like 69.12.0.0, so a /16 mask route would suffice for QL, maybe. you're still going to have to specify a default route for general traffic, and there's not too much you can do about that without getting really clever.

I was thinking of doing something like that but my cable connection proved to be better than DSL at the end (15-20ms lower by average).

Anyway, i would just set up one more computer (some old one running linux) and configure it so it would forward specific ports to specific interface.

Depending on what games you play, those ports can have all sorts of values and might be easier to let everything thru DSL unless it's a specific port such as ftp, torrent, stream?,..


But of course it would be much easier to force specific application to specific interface (no worries about ports).
You could try testing forcebindip by adding one more interface like mobile internet connection or hamachi (only useful if you can see which IP the game uses).
