ICMP ping has been blocked on the master server ever since they were DDoSed back in about 2000 - try actually querying the server and I guess it will work.

not sure if its a joke, but there a bunch of mysterious people out there. the instagib scene is playing q3 with old patches. some even play the q3 demo with excessive mods.

Yeah, I think that since 2008 pretty much 1.16 noghost (insta) is the most popular Q3 mod.

They have the 1.32 noGhost out now BUT ive had MANY problems with it. Im staying with 1.16 as there are MANY players and servers out still..

I don't have that issue.. I have alot of Russians join my server and then leave. 1.32 is alot of fun, it's just CPMA has killed the community :/

As I've said many times before, IMO, it is CPMA that killed Quake 3. The only reason people install Q3 is for CPMA, and when new-people come to play, they get told to get CPMA but never get to experience the real Quake 3.

Which I don't understand why, because Quake 3 is naturally a very fast game, why do we need mods to make it even faster. I know people that play COD, when I get them to Q3 and UT3, they say how fast it is, and end up leaving and never coming back.

Or when people want to play Q3 again, and they use the server-browser, it's full of Urban Terror, CPMA, Rocket Arena, and can't get into game to play. That's why I host default servers, and yes I get alot of people joining telling me everyother server don't work.

Why? - Flying around corners at 900+ ups "pro"?. switching weapons faster than John Carmak designed the game?, rockets move faster, strafing jumping made easier, how is any of that "pro".

Imo, default Quake 3 takes alot of 'skill' to master the moves correctly, thus making it better than CPMA which makes it so that anyone can do it. I go as far to say QuakeLive has been 'noobed' down too.

For example, QL DM6, Bridge to Rail platform jump is __closer__ than Q3A's DM6.

CPMA is a mod, CPM is the game mode. CPMA is also used to play VQ3, but with more hud/vote/gtv features.

I'm well aware of what it is. And it has more players than normal Q3. which would be alright, except that now "no one" plays Q3A anymore. Only these mods.

Which makes it hard for people that are reinstalling the game after 5 years, and want to play it, but their server browser is full of Urban Terror and CPMA servers, and they can't join and have a game.

That's where I come into it, and welcome them back with a fully default server that is easy to join.

You don't seem well aware of what it is at all - you're referring to CPMA as if it's CPM. It isn't.

CPMA, or "Challenge Promode Arena" is a mod for Quake 3 Arena that came out in 2000, the mod is made for the community, by the community and has become very popular in theQ3A scene.

One of the most used features of the mod, is it's own game physics (moment), as well as having the default movement (Vanilla Quake 3 (VQ3)), but most commonly used CPM for it's faster gameplay which also includes faster weapon switch speeds and the ability to jump 'higher' after jumping at a certain angle of some BSP's.

The mod is mostly used for duel players, that like 1v1, but it also has the other gametypes that Q3A offers too. The mod is so commonly used that in Australia it has taken over the entire Q3A game. When new people get introduced to the game, they are shown CPMA, but they see no point in playing the original game, as there are no players there, as this is also a domino effect.

CPMA's physics "CPM" is so common, that it was also implemented into DeFRaG mod, as well as Warsow, which is a game made from the Quake 3 Engine "ID Tech 3".

As I said, CPMA is miles better than vanilla q3, whether you choose to use VQ3 gameplay (default settings of that mod), CPM or anything else that mod offers.

It happens with all the games of the series though. Everyone stopped playing vanilla quake1, 2, 3 and 4 when mods and new clients were released, because those are miles better than the default game.
If anything, mods make people keep playing old games and not the opposite, particularly in this franchise.

And warsow does not use "cpm physics" nor the idtech3 engine. Just stop typing, lol.

If Quake 3 was meant to have CPM movment,. then John Carkam would of made if default, or an option in Quake 3 to make it so, the fact that it is a third part content. means that a bunch of people couldn't play quake 3 so they deiced to make a mode where they could.

CPMA is a mod. CPM is a different gametype that can be voted when using the CPMA mod.

CPMA, the mod, also improves the game as a whole, including VQ3 (default). It's so well done that people who tried CPMA (or OSP for that matter) simply can't go back to the much inferior vanilla q3.
Same happens with QW (ezquake client, and many, many mods), Q2 (OSP, opentdm, l-fire ctf, aq2, etc. etc.), and Q4 (q4max).

Back in the day id software was very supportive of third party content, to the point they actually bought some and re released it several times, and actually Q3 has an in-game menu called "Mods" for easier access.

And if you don't like the CPM gametype you can always callvote vq3, or play quakelive like everyone else does.

defrag adding a cpm style movement means what exactly? yea, they added an option for cpm'ers to defrag, which is nice i guess, your point being..?

it is a problem i've noticed. I was searching to play q3 via srver browser, but i can find only excessive plus modded games, that i don't like.

i wish everyone would move to q4 1.4 tho :D or at least for id to make 1.4 happen in ql. :)

1.4 was full of bugs (beta) and 1.4.2 (patch release) had ridiculous ramp jumps and ruined the weapon balance. Q4 1.3 was the best version of Q4. The only thing worth keeping from 1.4.2 is the lower railgun dmg and the ability to run at more than 62 fps.

Im from E+ and yes can be hard to start off with in E+ , but once you get to know pll they aint so bad , there are a few unsavoury characters , but i guess all communities have them aswell .
In the last few weeks we have had a few clans popping over to E+
from ng aswell as QL . Players pop into my clans servers daily and enjoy them.
An extra wee thing the E+ hasis an anticheat built in , kicks cheaters , its not 100% acc , but better than what we had . also doesn't lag like PB .
I think the main thing about this topic is that the master server is now working and helps with Q3 living longer , not what each person thinks of other mods .

I have made changes to the server. I no no longer use the NoGhost MOD as it constantly gave me issues.

On the BMA server- I really cranked up the speed of certain weapons. A exchanged the lame machine for the VIPER with Huge Flashes. make sure you download the weapons pack.
