I tried Q2World a while ago when it was in some early form of release would be good to see how its has changed

can u put up a video of an actual duel match? between two ok players preferably. no offense, but the video maker didnt seemed to experienced with Quake. i'd like to see what it offers in terms of gameplay not just the eyecandy.

i found only videos that are 2-3 years old on yt. this is 2 months old. your right i added it only for the eyecandy. if somebody has a better vid just post it.

it's actually a very unique take on the quake collection. I think it is pretty fun and looks pretty good. Although I haven't played it for a while, I'm very glad you can now set stuff up through the menu rather than having to bind everything manually through the console or config.

I played it some.

I connected to an empty online server but it wouldn't let me join, so I did 'map gehenna' and ran around there after setting up my config.

It's definitely pretty rough around the edges:

There's no mouse accel option, and although it saves your config automatically, I would feel a lot 'safer' with a save config command.

The default brightness settings are very dark. In my opinion there should be more options than just gamma to lighten things up.

I saw no option to select the default gun, the 'pew pew' energy particle type one. I didn't see anything like an axe/gaunt/fist/knife.

The items are difficult to see, the weapons in particular. The quad damage sound is horribly annoying. WOB WOB. WOB.

I love the hyperblaster in this, cool sound and feel. LG is not half bad, rail is clear. BFG awesome.

I found it a bit strange that the super shotgun shoots almost entirely horizontally.

The machine gun has a great fun feel to it.

The maps I tried seemed alright, they are probably a little too busy texture wise for a game in which it is difficult to see in. If this were remedied, map texture diversity would be embraced and this is something that QL sorely lacks.

The current version has little or no air control. Rocket jumping is very awkward. Probably this is just how it is in Q2, and I'm coming from a QW/QL perspective.

By the way it doesn't resemble quakeworld to me in the least. It feels more like quake2 + unreal. Maybe there's some q3 in there but not much. The q3 part is probably like faster rockets, more "plasma gun" like hyperblaster, q3 railgun.

About brightness levels, in the System menu you'll find brightness, contrast, and saturation which all affect diffuse textures in-game. You'll also find modulate, which affects lightmap brightness. And finally, there's gamma, which reduces the darkness of the scene while also muting the bright areas (it's sort of like a monochromatic, non-linear contrast filter).

There is actually more air control in Q2W than there is in Quake2; that's one of the player movement changes I've made. In general, 75% of the movement code comes from Quake3, with care taken to preserve Quake2's trick jumps.

I'll try to get some in-game videos demonstrating combat soon.

In the meantime, for those claiming that it doesn't "work" -- be sure to run the Updater before trying to run the game. It helps if you, you know, RTFM a little bit.

Yeah, I was actually using modulate at 5 in that video. The gamma doesn't seem to have much of an effect, and I was afraid to mess with contrast and saturation, because these usually have undesirable effects in other games.

I don't know why I explained it as only having gamma in my post. I think what I was alluding to was the lack of a mapoverbrightbits type cvar ala q3.

Well, I can only calls em' like I sees em' ;-) QL/QW players will definitely feel somewhat hindered by the movement constraints.

Probably you should repackage the download with the latest version, because anyone who doesn't run the updater.. well I tried it without initially and the results weren't good :-P

At least the current version works somewhat, although it would be nice if a non-online game could be started via the menu. I don't know if a lot of people are savvy enough to try and get into a map with the console, as people like to do mess with the game and see how it works before they join one online.

So bundling up a snapshot of the game at any point in time would be pretty pointless -- we're just moving too fast (that's a good thing!)

Folks are expected to run Update, period. The Installation & Maintenance page on the website, where users are instructed to go after downloading, walks them through this process, even providing screenshots for Mac:

I can't make it much easier on people. Who downloads a 4MB package and assumes that it will just run an entire FPS out of the box?
