There's always some tournaments going on, but rarely with price money. However, Hymn of Hope is going to be run on a monthly basis (perhaps with an obvious summer break). It's a really hard game to master, but at the same time very rewarding game to improve in. The scene is also quite mature for most part, since the avarage age of the players is quite high. There's also several examples of players starting playing and improving fast, and competing with the best within a year or two of playing.

Aerowalk looks boring as fuck on QW :D.

Well to me it just looks like alot of spam untill one guy gets a frag, then he will make alot of spawn frags for some time. Then the spamming starts again untill some guy gets a frag and then repeat.

But CPM also bores me so i dunno :/

The fights are quite much about having a better position and since the players are faster you just have to "spam it". Since there aren't fast enough weps (other than lg if it's close enough) to stop the enemy from moving :)
And also remember that an armor has more value in qw than in ql, which also makes a difference considering how much you want it! :P

No offence to you, your doing a great job and we appreciate it loads, but this stream is technically much worse quality than the majority of QL ones.

The fps isn't great, the lagging is frequent (not the stream to my connection, but the camera's connection to the server), the sound is out of sync with the action and in-game sounds are muffled (qw limitation), the enemy models are jerky as hell (partially a qw issue, partially bad fps on stream). Yes your config is quite pretty, but I prefer high picmip style used in q3/ql casts as it's less busy and easier on the eye so you can concentrate on the action.

Most QL streams e.g. lvlup are far far smoother, crisper and clearer and sound much better.

That said I'm really enjoying this tourney, and the commentary by bps and the others is very good fun, although pretty basic compared to 2gd/fazz I guess that's the nature of qw1v1 though being more arcade than vq3/ql and arguably less tactical.

If qw was less tactical shouldn't ql players have an easy path to adapt to beeing top players in qw then? :P

Well it's true that lvlup has a stream and commentary that can't be matched by the qw community atm, but several games commentated by Jehar has had just as good commentary considering the quality, but not enough knowledge of the games and tactics so it has only come close :(

Sure, I've played a lot more q3 than qw so am no doubt missing a lot of the nuances and underestimating the skills involved. The in-combat skill of the top players is clearly out of this world, but even the best ones seem to be not that great at stuff like timing (jumping on RA 2-5s+ too early, forgetting mh all togethor at times), the main exception I saw to this was Rikoll who was consistently solid.

But bps, paradoks etc. who are div0 qw'rs didn't really come up with anything that analytical about the games other than pointing out some nice little tricks and skills, that's not to say I didn't enjoy their commentary it was awesome fun and they are passionate and knowledgable about the game they obviously love which is great . I particularly liked their history of certain maps and how and why some players favour certain ones.

The things with the armors is that you don't usually need to be there at the exact time and in many cases it's better to be there early and have the position (which is usually quite good on a defensive way on most of the maps). While in QL i know you have to get it at the right second (3/4 armors atleast) to be able to keep control and running the map solidly.

Shortly:
DM2, ra/mh area very nice defensive place, until last minutes nobody will attack this area if you go +back there, supports going early.
DM4, no idea to be in mid and spam if you are a little bit weak -> +back and in to ya/ra for shelter and spam, supports going early.
DM6, if you have lg and a couple of rockets and your enemy isn't fully stacked he will most probably only try to spamhit you, this means you have a positional advantage at ra, so it supports going there early.
Aerowalk, qw has fast nades and the way up from rl/ga is longer and slower than in ql, lg more powerful, the jumppad hole is not usually a good idea, so beeing early at ra is supports, only includes 2 healthpacks!
Ztndm3, nadespam makes this place suitable for having upper/mid position over the low. If you have lg and some hp you will be just fine and beeing there early is not an bad idea either. Even if ztn might be the map that requires to most exact armor runnings of all these while in control.

But also beeing late isn't always a bad things, this is usually when you are stacked with some ga/ya armor or just play position. DM2, no scenario comes to mind, since the tactics and timing is quite varying. DM4, playing in mid with ga/ya only and not even going for ra. This requires a strong lg and good dodging but isn't a rare sight. DM6, playing at gl and just keeping your enemy at rl/mh/sng-area. No need to pick up ra since since you can kill him if he spawns ra without taking that much dmg and you still have control. If he doesn't die you will still have position and for him no way to attack except confronting you in to an aim fight (or do some silly rj that works in 1% of cases). Aerowalk, playing mid here aswell if stacked is something that isn't a bad idea. Very common sight in aero duels when one gets position and map lock over the opponent. Just take the spawnkills and smile. Ztndm3, using ra or ya as a bate isn't a bad idea here if stacked. Also not taking it under risky times just as in ql usually f*cks up the timing a bit anyways since all know when it spawns.

Shortly: You usually don't need to take the armors as exactly as in ql, also in ql you collect the armors "one after another". In qw if you have red you can't collect an yellow :)

I also have a hard time reading your post and not thinking you are exaggerating.

The FPS is actually a stable 30 fps with no dropped frames to twitch.tv (except when I accidentally saturate my upstream with something else, herp derp) so any issues you might be having on that front are actually on your end. Other players brought this up to.

One possible solution would be lowering the bitrate of the stream (currently around 2000-3000kbps) which would obviously lower the quality, and switching to flat/textureless graphics would "fix" that a bit. However, that's not a step I'm willing to take, since my initial goal was high definition, and also since I can watch the stream just fine on my mid-range work laptop.

One option here would be for twitch.tv to be nice to me and to enable a low-quality copy of my stream which users can then select. Any tips on how I can get them to do that will be helpful, but right now I think its just a case of getting X number of viewers which I don't yet have.

Finally, the one technical issue I am aware of is audio - the volume leveling (especially when doing commentary or anything else on top of in-game audio) is surprisingly difficult, and there is a ~500ms lag between video and in-game audio.

edit: That said, 30 fps is nice and all, but is no substitute to unlimited power when you download nquake.com and watch through qtv directly :)

alright man, all fair points, yea I didn't mean to sound too negative, I enjoyed it loads more than the average ql zotac. your commentary with andeh on the finals day was perfect, he seemed to have a really interesting insight on the players, and you pov as a mid-tier player (hope thats fair :P) was great for a layman like me too
