some months ago CA stats were resetted in QLRanks. Considering it's by far the most popular mod, and also that every dueler plays CA at least once a year, it's safe to say that's by far the safest way to estimate QL's current population.
With that said, QL only has 60,991 players, even when it's a mostly f2p game.

While it's true I made that number out of nothing, 18,924 potential buyers/donors is quite poor anyway. This is an industry in which sells are counted in millions.

How can you be sure that there are only 18000 potential buyers? There are 18000 people who pay a yearly fee to play a ten year old game. I think there are much more people who would fund a new arene style fps game. You just need a good concept and something to show for kickstarter funding.

If you listened to that GDshow surely you must also have heared him mention kickstarter in that very show.

He got funded by stunlock in one condition; if he instead would do a new wow-arena-like game. The result was BLC. FPFPS are too unpopulated to be invested in.

Wrong. He asked Stunlock if they would program/design a new FPS based on his concepts. They said: "We will if you provide us the funds to do it". So he went to several investors but all of them didn't want to invest into such type of games, one of them was willing to pay something like 15 Million for a new MMOBA game instead of some lousy 2 Million for an FPS.
