the ie3.0 and wmo are completely different size/shapes..

But the ie 3.0 sorta outstretches your hand, making it alittle bigger.

The fact that it is wireless and I've heard of many people having issues with it have put me off from it, but thanks anyway!

Sidewinder is a great mouse. Lift-off is perfect as with most M$ mice, precision is nice.I would get the classic over the Sidewinder X5, as X5 is a cheaped down version of the original. There is one small downside, the max. tracking speed is somewhere at 1.5 m/sec.

What is the difference between the X5 and the Sidewinder Gaming Mouse? X5 is $45 and the other is $80 off of Amazon.

the regular Microsoft Sidewinder (black and red) is the first model and has loads of features/accessories. the X5 (all black) is a cheaper version released later, it doesn't have weights system, cord holder, different kinds of mouse skates. the core is the same on both mice though.

The major complaint I've heard is that they are cheaply made. Do you find this to be the case?

not at all. if anything it's picky about the mousepad you use. but get this and there won't be a problem

the build quality is fine. the sensor is not top notch in terms of raw performance, but that only matters if you're picky.

Definitely try the IME 3.0 if you can find it. I've got huge hands, too and it's the only mouse that I feel comfortable with.
Actually I prefer the shape of the Deathadder, but it's a bit too small imo.

Yes, you will need to set USB polling rate to at least 250 Hz to get better tracking speed.

My recommendation: learn to play with regular stuff (WMO @ 125Hz), just like the quake "pros".

Just set it to 500hz. It's a well proven fact that particular sensor performs better with more hz (1000 is overkill though).

WMO/IE 3.0 tracking speed goes up to 1.5 m/s (instead of 1 m/s) with more than 125 hz cause of the 8 bit data path...
It's not much a question of polling and ms, it's more because of the tracking speed of this sensor.
And tracking speed is important (negative acceleration can be a problem).
Even with my low quake skills, I can reach speed above 1.0 m/s (especially with flick shots or rocket jumping) and increasing that limit is always useful.

It's also practically better. 125hz not only limits fine control, but introduces very noticeable periodical stutter on some mice (not to mention malfunction speed). If you are used to 500hz, it is pretty easy to tell if your USB isn't overclocked.

Where are you getting your information?. It's safe to say the majority, if not all of the pros use more than 125hz. For example, one of the reasons Cooller stated for switching to the Abyssus was to avoid having to overclock his USB port at lans. Perhaps you should keep your useless, ill-informed recommendations to yourself.

about the stuttering, on most mice I've tried (MX518, Abyssus, etc) the difference was unnoticeable.

Max speed is tough! Any rocket jump will make you feel it :D

I never noticed any on the Abyssus because I never ran it below 500hz (I can't imagine why anyone would). On the MX518 and WMO though it seems to come in waves every few minutes, quite unpredictable but it has that low refresh rate feeling.

However it is quite minor compared to the glaring issue of having limited fine control and a low malfunction speed on 125hz.
