What is your master thesis on?

computer science ...
but it's a lot of mathematics ... and also about implementing mathematical solutions to problems ... I work with polytopes to generate code ... but not so easy ... but it's interesting ... but often I am stuck and don't know really how to advance ...

but I was also not so focused ... somehow I am relieved that all the last 9 semesters I got every semester 30 ects passing every exam the 1st time ... but the last 2-3 years I had no time for anything ...
started my bachelor thesis 1 week after ending a project for studies, then got straight into the master after bachelor, and it was another university where the master starts earlier, so also almost no vacation ... and this master is just a very big big stress test ... 80 hours/week ... and 2nd semester in master started immediately after 1st semester ... then I had a long summer vacation, but of course if the vacation is long, you can't sit around at home doing nothing, and since I have some opportunities with my bach degree I did a fulltime internship ...
and then semester 3 of master started, and thesis started directly after 3rd semester ...

somehow I am not a machine and cannot endure anymore all this stress and somehow my mind just rebelled ... and I did/do a lot of stuff for myself ... :-) ... I am physically present in the lab though ... but I did at night a lot of other stuff ... I read a lot like 2500 pages if I sum up all the non-computer science books ... I played some games (HL1+2, Portal1+2, Secret of Mana, tested some others ...), I made some course at that udacity elearning university ... I also do some sports for preparing for triathlon ... lately I bought some bikes and sold them and I investigated also a lot into vintage bikes ... god you don't know how much time you can lose yourself for getting more to know about all the materials/brands/products in vintage bikes also getting to know what good design is by looking at thousands of bikes and searching for them on google, etc. ...

though I am physically present in the lab, all this stuff at night just soaked away my energy that I need to work in the morning/afternoon ... also I lose myself often in internetbrowsing instead of working on my mathematical problems or code ...
but now I STOPPED IT ALL ...
NO BOOKS, NO GAMES, NO BIKES, NO UDACITY ...
JUST THE THESIS ... but well, I still do some sport for triathlon ...
but I will also have to work at the weekend now to catch up!!!

oh yeah, and the frameworks I have to use are really not easy to get into ... no tutorials, only some example codes for certain problems not necessarily related to my thesis ... no community for that framework ...
have to read headers and helpfiles to get an understanding what the functions do and how they work :-(

and on top of that I have to understand many mathematical stuff ...

but I have some basic prototype running ... and I now know a bit how to use the frameworks ... but now I guess I will have to implement some mathematical functions not already supported by the framework ... and I am not really sure how to do this ... also I still have to understand how to work with certain datatypes ...

well still 8 weeks to go, have to switch on TURBO :-)

So what are you working on?

The theme is: Efficiency of a gearbox lubricated with wind generator gear oils.

It involves a series of tests on a back to back test bench rig with recirculating power. With the experimental results a power loss model to predict the power losses on the gearbox is developed. I must say each test takes about 8 hours to complete and i have to do more than 50. The test bench rig requires constant monitoring. When the oil is to be changed the gearbox must be taken off the test bench rig, (thats an heavy bitch -.-), and have its inside cleaned with ether. oil samples are taken from the gearbox oil sump. that oil is analyzed in order to evaluate the wear performance of each lubricant. This is just a small taste of what im doing ;). You know some things are secret.

it is not that simple... and when you refer to 'they', those are the kind of people im working with. Im not working with oils for cars... im working with way more advanced lubricants.
