I actually play better without sleeping for 24 hours, I get 'in the zone' with ease, and my positioning, timing and weapon selection all improve. Can't say the same for 48 hours though!
It might have to do with warming up. I need hours to play at least decently, even more to be in the zone.
Also I play miles better after midnight for some reason. Might be due that in the good old days I had a way better ping at that hour, so it's psychological.
I get the same effect with mild hangover. +backing when needed doens't seem to be boring as fuck then. Aim and positioning are both better since you don't give a fuck. And fuck timing.
"Scientists found that men who drank two pints of beer or two glasses of wine before solving brain teasers were quicker in delivering correct answers."
It does say that it's about creative thinking and that analytical thinking gets decreased. Now how analytical is Quake in game? Usually during a duel you do not have too much time to come up with a deep analysis, mainly because of the speed and how fast conditions change. This means that you have to come up with solutions quickly or rely on experience and homework. It can support the results which I get in game while mildly hung over, but obviously it's also about balancing between being too drunk to react and being enough drunk to get the benefits. Since Quake is not so much about instant reaction times as CS for example, then it might be okay to sacrifice some reaction for greater metagame. Maybe this is why Spart1e is so good :P
Oh and I found a solution for the timing problem a while back. I just try to time one item in english and other in estonian. This way I can say them in my head in whichever order I like and I always know which one is which, meaning I don't have to waste unnecessart cognitive energy trying to distinguish them.
it's not like i didn't sleep to do this. i had tons of shit to do for school so i didn't get any sleep for quite some time and after i finished it i tried playing some quake.. played even worse than usually.:)
Not trolling..why would i troll? ESR has plenty other people for that..
Oversleeping is a very vague term, but in general it ranges from benificial to slightly bad, while deprivation is always very bad. If the oversleeping is because of lack of energy, then other issues should be considered, like heavy metal toxicity (chelated with cilantro), lack of vitamin D, etcetc. IANAD
honestly twister, i think you are a nice guy..but do yourself a favour and forget about that game a s a career path. you dont have what it takes. and the best thing is you donīt need excuses.
