2, 1, 2 -- keep those numbers constant for a while, and rotate within the categories. So you might have Aero, ZTN, T7, Hektik, Focal Point for one comp, then DM6, DM13, Tox, and two other new maps for the next comp.

Only problem is that I don't know how many of the maps in the 'new' category are actually decent, but there's one way to find out! Once a map is proven to be rubbish, toss it out, and add new new maps whenever a decent-looking one is made.

I'd like to see tournaments using different map pools, something like

Classic: DM6, ZTN, T4, DM13, DISMEMBERMENT
Fast: AERO, HEKTIK, TOXICITY, PHRANTIC, T9
Slow/Tactical: ZTN, DM13, T7, BF, DISMEMBERMENT
Mixed: AERO, TOX, ZTN, DM13, T4

etc.. etc.

DM6 still kicks ass, the map has provided best games in Quake history over the years. Adding GA to LG stairs would do the magic in duel.

I think it would be really imbalanced. If you spawn @ lg, you can go MH -> SG -> Shards -> LG -> GA -> YA, most of the time without taking damage. The result is the same as if you would go for RA, only there are close to no risks going GA.

Instead of GA, there should be 2-3 shards max.

maybe some shards in quad room. that 2nd floor ledge that comes from pillar sg to quadroom and leads to midarea

GA on the stairs ledge - passage from the room where LG is to the middle platform (there's also a spawn point there)

thats 200/100 + lg, against 100/100 with rockets/rail.... not exactly fair...


dm6 is fucked up in terms of balance, and nothing can fix it imo... leave it as it is, its just unique map when it comes to retaking control...

tbh, 15 minute duel is a cure to most of ql duel problems :=)

how about including it in tournaments and changing the TL only for that map. I don't know if you can callvote that in-game or if it's needed to spawn the server again.

tbh i dunno why tourney servers arnt 15 min.

matches are shorter (particularly bo5) so it's easier to meet schedules. Also it makes the gametype a lot more attractive for newcomers. 10 mins is simply a good compromise.

my idea is to include it in map pools as a 15 min map (callvote, if possible) since that more or less solves the main issue with that map, which is not having enough time to comeback. But most importantly, it makes dm6 unique.

in addition it should't be old-new-newer that you pick from but as mefajpE has it - slow-mid-fast.

I disagree on dm6.

When campgrounds first became a competitive map it's layout was 2x ya and a 50h where mega is now. Pro-q3dm6 with a red and mega and its corresponding "super lockdown" is due to there being too much armor and health. This is the main reason it's out of the pool.

Therefore, the simplest change is to replace red with another yellow armor, so the layout is 2x ya 1x mega.

2 - old (hub and dm13)
2 - newish ( t7 and tox)
1 - new (I'm looking for new map)

Five I'd pick:

Aerowalk: As long as this map has been around, to me it still feels like play styles are evolving on it...not everyone plays it the same way yet and it has shown different strategies still work.

Hektik: It's new and again the styles are still evolving, there is a lot of potential on this map for great games if people would be patient with the map.

DM13: A classic, and the only map left that feels like 90% brain map instead of a heavy aim map. I know people are bored of it, but I'm a bit biased cause it is my fav map :P Also the only map left without a rail.

T7: Has brought amazing games (cypher vs rapha iem groups...DAT PLASMA!) and is always fun to watch...unfortunately after the last update or 2 it feels pretty spawn dependent.

Toxicity: Was hard to pick this or t4 but I'll go with Tox because it is 'new' and people seem to enjoy it. There are a TON of sick rail angles on the map that make it a lot of fun to watch and play. I feel people are still playing it differently, although many have started to play it like Rapha.

Personally I see nothing wrong with a 7map pool though...people aren't that lazy!

A constantly changing map pool, wether it be weekly or monthly using all the maps you mentioned with a 5 map pool per event.

monthly too often. 3rd/6th month would be better imo, allows people to get into the maps too

They should be able to play all of them and would also help to get some different winners as it feels a bit stagnant at the moment.

dm13 is a pile of horse shit. dont understand why its played in ql with nuclear rockets on every corner.

like already said, someone whining about dm13 in the specific and not in a general contest that includes the game itself, is only someone admitting that he cannot play well on it

not a very relevant thing to post here, but I was curious if maps from any other games were ever ported over to qlive (ie, phrantic from q4/rest from q3). I also was wondering if someone made placebo effect for qlive, that map had a cool structure.

to me, different maps feel almost like different games

any other ql maps are so 50-50, basically I cannot watch pro matches on new maps like t7 or tox, without a certain level of apathy

on top of that, like one who knows something about the history of the old maps (which pro players played on them, with what occasion), I'd like to see duels like z4-vs-cooller on ql-t4 (afaik cooller's best performance on t4 against z4 was at cyberx games in 2004), z4-vs cypher on t4 reloaded (z4 lost on t4 at qcon 2008 against cypher), I'd like to see k1llsen's performance on ztn (last time ztn was in the pool he was coming close to be unbeatable), and cooller-vs-z4 on dm6 (don't recall z4 ever winning a match on dm6 against cooller, goddamn stairs ;), etc.

If just a regular cup, then I don't care, probably won't watch it anyway.
