US quake scene stays the same because no players want to sign up to lose after 1 or 2 games against 2000+ ELO players
wonko posts saying sub 1800 ELO players love to lose 30-0 every map to their "heroes" while never improving

ELO below 1600

to makes things interesting, putting everyone in same cup results in the thing described anonymous first poster and one of the reasons I dont feel like following these cups.

Considering the response from the community for things like the draft ctf cup, i see no reason why an external organization should go through the effort to do this. I'm not disagreeing with the basic premise. I've always said that one night cups in the single (or even double) elimination format will never sustain a competitive scene well. But at some point, someone in the community has to step up and organize a league of some kind. Like ninex does for cpm, like sirdark did for ql 2v2. sitting and whining about it is just stupid if you're not prepared to take some action.

Edit: also eh can we stop using QLranks ELO as some absolute measure of skill. It isn't in its current form. It's super skewed in a small community with lots of cliques, like the north american duel scene.

ps: Btw for all the whiners, ESL did run a league at one point. It had plenty of signups. Then it died about 2 weeks in cos no one could be bothered to play their games even with admins constantly reminding them over and over.

The people who think they will not improve by playing in these cups will never improve period. Playing the best is the best way to get better, simple as that. I'm not speaking about the people who get raped 30-0, I mean the people who lose 10-2 or 12-5 or 9-3 or 6-0 etc.

I hate to use myself as example cause I'm not that good anyway, but I got better by playing in cups and actually TRYING to get better no matter who I played. Thankfully we still had mid-tier players around like dCoy and rey_ who I played a lot but those few times I beat them and got to play rapha/zero4/czm in MATCH GAMES was when I improved the most and when I was able to acknowledge my mistakes more easily.

The more cups I played in, the better I got. I guess my best accomplishment was taking an aerowalk from zero4 in a match once...yeah he played terrible but still, I took a map from zero4 and that felt pretty good.

tl;dr If people want to actually get better they should signup and play in these cups as much as they can.

And yes I've played a couple recently because spring semester ended and I had a week worth of free time :P Summer classes just started so I'll probably maintain the, couple games a week routine I've got going on...

duel just isn't fun son. it needs a rework badly, there's too much chasing +backers, not enough incentive for a nigga to fight.

the fuck do i wanna chase some asshole around the map for? and even being 5-0 down in 10 minute duels makes ppl fucking nervous unless they are pro. This means they make way more mistakes and then it gets to 10-0 and its already gg.

I think a really interesting idea is that at 8 minutes the low player gets a powerup, probably scout rune from ctf.

imagine that shit, you are down 5-4 and the up guy KNOWS hes going to get fucked at 8 minutes, so he lets the down player frag him once 5-5 so he doesn't get scout rune, but he knows hes better so he can still win 7-5 or whatever. Or he lets him get 6-5 so he gets scout rune at 8 min and then owns the other guy 10-6.

or hes 5-4 and the other guy gets scout and he manages to keep him the fuck away from him for 30 sec.

this adds some hilarious interesting moments to an otherwise shitty ending.

imagine 10-0 @ 8 minutes then the 0 player gets scout on aerowalk for 30 sec, and 10-10s it. THAT'S MONEY SON.

but i dont duel cuz its fucking boring. CA 1v1 on eyetoeye is the ultimate shit. 2 men enter 1 man leave no hiding no running no spamming corners or walls.

YET AGAIN wonko fails at streaming- i was there, the people in chat were desperatly trying to tell him that the stream is lagging and yet he continues casting oblivious to everything; doing absolutley nothing. What a complete fuckwit. Really zoot you need to sort this retard out and show him how it's done, because at the moment wonko shouldn't have the right to stream these games when he's doing such a bad job of it.

Stream was

1) laggy during a timeout period while rey was not connected yet
2) Was restarted and fixed as soon as the people on the server said that there seems to be a lag issue
3) I would really love to see you do a better job commentating and streaming.

There is a limited amount of people with the right of resources able to stream certain events. It's a 16 slot server, so out of the 100 or so people who watched stream, 88 would not be able to enjoy the game otherwise (12 spectators on server who weren't streaming or casting being the only 12). So unless you, yourself could do a better job running a stream on your pc or even co-casting (his casting, in-game insight and commentary being quite flawless by the way, at least in my opinion), I would kindly request you to shut the fuck up and take a seat)))

u know i would be perfectly fine with any criticism, especially about the quality of the casting. but i think ur going a bit overboard.

i was perfectly aware that the stream was lagging, but the main reason i didnt restart was that shady was on a loooooooooong line of thought and took some time to wrap it up. and since the game wasnt exactly in a critical phase at that time (i think that map was pretty much over about 7 mins in when the stream started lagging at about 8 mins in or so?) i decided to wait for him to stop and was going to restart the stream in between maps.

ps: im quite aware of my deficiencies as a caster, since the reason i took up casting was precisely because i felt like the north american community could use a decent caster who knew the game. and i realize probably better than anyone how far away i am from that goal. all i can say is that its a lot tougher than it seems like to keep ur shit together when ur streaming/ managing stream assets/ and trying to do indepth commentary at the same time. that is not an excuse. i can only say ill try to do better.
