Err.. really? Maybe i've seen a different match, because the one i saw had extreme levels of drama, tension, well executed tactical play from both sides, personal mini-plot lines inside the grander one playing out throughout the whole game. I loved every second of it.

tut tut! I think chelsea defended very well- true they were mediocre (at best) going forward but bayern, for the most part, found it hard in the final third. Was a great game to watch though- there was a massive group of germans in the pub which helped the atmosphere!

Munich had like 70% ball possesion throughout the entire match. The individual performance of their players was better and their overall play style was more appealing.
I think all in all you can say that it was a one way game for at least 80 minutes of the time played which is why I think the win is undeserved.
There is nothing wrong with the way that Chelsea won this game though; it was just not really nice to look at..

The fact that chelsea scored more goals doesn't change that munich was the better team. However, if you wanna call their continuous counter play "good tactical gameplay" this whole discussion might be pointless anyway.

I have to disagree here. Football is a form of entertainment, more so than a sport. Chelsea is a team that spends ridiculous amounts of money on players, like other clubs do too...

Then the least I expect is an appealing play-style that makes buying a ticket -or even spending the time to watch it on television- worth it. And it wasn't, in fact it wasn't this entire season of the CL for Chelsea. It was shit, and I find it disappointing that they won using this style.

Well... that's exactly what this was. I mean, i hate that Chelsea played so defensively as well, a team as good as that should not look like Stoke. But i've come to realize something about Chelsea in the recent months - that team is simply unable to play better against an opposition as good in possession as Bayern or Barcelona are. If they'd open up even for a second, they would get slain, they just don't have the players to do better. It would be suicide, especially if we're talking in the context of a game against Bayern, the team that looked marginally better in two games vs Real Madrid and beat them on even ground, playing adventurous football.

Di Matteo deserves praise for realizing the limits of the roster of players he had at his disposal. It wasn't a pretty victory, but it was a smart victory nonetheless. Chelsea are at a point where a rebuilding period awaits them. Perhaps the next incarnation will be able to play a more happy brand of football. But with what they have now, this was an admirable run, squeezing out 150% of everything these geezers have in them.

And it's a nice story that this team, after all the bad luck they had losing against Barca and Liverpool in odd circumstances (even being arguably the better team) and United in the finals after penalties, finally got lucky themselves and grabbed the trophy.

You are making a point here but your argumentation doesn't really get me away from my original statement.
As I said, there is nothing wrong with the way they won this game but they were lucky in quite a few moments and had a rather high number of fouls; overall they were slow to react to Bayern's moves which leads me to what I said above.
I guess you could discuss this to death.. maybe I would have liked Bayern to win because it eventually gave the national team players some additional confidence for the euro cup.

Yeah i don't even necessarily disagree with what you were saying, just think that saying their victory wasn't deserved is a bit unfair. After their games against Barca i felt exactly how you feel right now, but thinking about the circumstances from a broader perspective, it's almost as if the universe plotted this extremely unlikely success from the get go, i mean, nobody gets that lucky. Who are we to argue against fate. :D

Ironically, i think this loss could give Germany exactly this boost. These players will be hungry for success like never before, and with the quality of the team, i'd put them as major favourites.

I mean, let's put it into perspective:

Spain won so much they have to be jaded by now. And the Clasico dramas had to take it's toll on their identity as a collective. They also lack an in-form striker.

Italy looks good but they don't have any real oomph in their forward line. If Cassano and Balotelli are gonna be on top of their game, maybe they can make something happen.

Netherlands will be as strong as ever, with their team looking for redemption after the WC 2010 final. They raped their qualifier group, Huntelaar looks as deadly as ever. I'd put them as equal favourites with Germany.

France looks completely lackluster, but with Benzema playing as good as he is, maybe they have a shot.

Portugal is a joke, their squad looks extremely weak, with the exception of Ronaldo, but he tends to disappear in important national team games.

England... i'll let their striker roster speak for itself - Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck. Haha. They have a strong defensive line though, perhaps that will be enough. But i seriously doubt it.

I'd put Sweden and Denmark (such a shame they ended up in the group of death) as possible dark horses of the tourney. But as it is, i can't see past Netherlands and Germany when looking at possible winners.

if the game showed anything then how much chelsea's game is based on drogba and how little we know about torres' form. he could be phenomenal again with iniesta/silva/xavi/fabregas/busquets/alonso behind him, chelsea's offensive game didn't look anything like what those guys do. if all fails, they still have llorente and soldado.

netherlands back four isn't what it used to be, i doubt they will be able to win a cup. so sad :(

i'm not so sure about the supposed boost for germany, some of the bayern players didn't look half as good as they did in 2010. schweinsteiger was slow at times, müller had a mixed season at best, boateng shouldn't play CB and gomez happens to disappear against strong opponents. kroos/özil/götze alone are going to tear defensive lines apart though :p

And just so we're clear, i was cheering for Bayern. I'm not a big fan or anything but i like the kind of football Bayern can play. But still, i think everyone needs to fully appreciate Chelsea's effort, and as much as i dislike the outcome, i can't say it was an undeserved victory.
