if you dont have any way to get a better ping,just try to get used to it,i dont think "net-code config" will help much,just work more on prediction and positioning your self in some spots where you get low damage and do much damage,also,dont play vs very low ping players ( in duel) cause if you will loose,you will probably blame the ping.

It's not worth it. It's just not the way this game is meant to be played nowadays. Even if you learn not to rage after missing easiest shots and being constantly outaimed by everyone you won't be able to do all these amazing air rockets, lg suspensions, back to back rails etc. I know this game isn't just about aiming but these moments are the most enjoyable and they emerge from rest of you skills.
I can tell you from my own experience with playing on high ping that totaly outplaying your opponent in duel and being unable to finish him until he blows himself up by hiting you with rocket just doesn't feel right.

Just find another hobby to fill the gap :)
If you really love the game and want to stay in touch with it then you can watch big events or play defrag / lan from time to time.

The only problem imo is one's ego because you will be playing equal games against people who are weaker than you. If this is not a problem the things you said are not important.

Yes it is a problem and it's perfectly normal.

When it comes to more casual game modes - many ppl find being unable to even come close to their previous level very unsatysfying (and not that fun as before). Especially when it actually makes such visible difference like in ql.

Strenx is a whiner and pavel is a russian. I've seen both do amazing with 90+ ping

Btw if you (op) also have unstable ping then I recommend giving it up even more.

eeds way more adaptin than an hour :p And your game is screwed Nwhen you once get to play with 0-60 ping again. What those examples just tell is you dont need a good ping to play good and get good results

didn't evil say, that strenx had played an us-tourney from europe and won it? You can play with high ping, many shots are prediction shots anyways, and if you hit, you're even more happy. Also: your enemies will probably underestimate you. If I had no chance to play at low ping, I would play for sure at a high ping. Maybe you can find some mates who are pretty far away, like from north america westcoast and you play against them on a korean server, where you both will have an equal ping...maybe 200? You probably won't find anyone who's willing to do this...

180ms and 100ms are different as well. one of them is better than the other similarly to how one netcode is better to another.

100 ping in cpm > 100 ping in ql
180 ping in cpm > 180 ping in ql
100 ping in ql > 180 ping in cpm

will you be able to shoot 45 shaft on 100 ping? probably not, but you can get good enough to not need to do it once you're accustomed to playing on it.

I don't play on one location exclusively or anything..

30ms to chi, 60 to nyc, 120 to france, 140 to nl. Those are the 4 locations I play on most often.

The main problem, is that i can't play LAN at all, and if I want to play quake, QL is the only way for me. So i'm just looking for ways to boost up my game despite the ping.

I've read about many commands that is considered to be helpful:
cl_timenudge, vertexlight, playerlean, rate, maxpackets, prediction..

anyone under ping 80 should be using truelightning 1, but im thinking it might be a good idea to move down to 0.7-0.8 when above ping 100 so you can see where your shaft dances.

no way, one should always try to set the highest mp the connection allows. lower ping times with lower mp are a sign of bad coding on id's part, not reality at all :d

iirc id said somewhere that ql's unlagged network works fine up until ping 80, above timenudge makes sense again. in light of this i'd at tn -20 to what you wrote, i agree on the other settings (snaps is useless but yeah).

2-3 weeks and you will get used to it (played with ping 80-110 for months).
scored almost the same like now with ping 40 (ok Clan Arena..)

Afaik you'll get 'your ping/2' negative timenudge with it. So it opens some opportunities. :)

I think your right, nobody has confirmed exactly how autotimenudge works but it is diffidently not capped to -20 like normal timenudge.

IME, cl_autotimetimenudge 1, with your ping will result in too much nudge and thus make the enemymodel warp very bad. I personally have cl_autotimenudge 1 binded to lg/pg only and for the other weapons i use cl_timenudge -20/-12 or w.e.

Unfortunately, quakelive's netcode just isn't designed to handle such ping and you will still remain in a big disadvantage.

Perhaps consider trying CPMA? CPMA's netcode is far more high ping friendly.

No idea, try both.

Autonudge 1 helped me a lot when I played the CSN ctf US cup, from France with 100ms.
Even if I didn't hit like I do with 30ms, I had fun. It helps a lot with mg and lg actually.

I tried autotimenudge and it just seems to make the enemy models warp like crazy. ;s

cl_timenudge 0 My reason for this is that you get more weird shit happen with it and it really doesn't help that much, besides you'll learn to track in a predictive manner eventually and in my opinion at least it doesn't help with projectiles past 85ms , just hitscan.


Play against people with an equalish ping no more than +-10ms. NO GULFIES AROUND have to play 'murricans

Don't play people who have >=40ms because they get 9001 tons of hitscan compensation against people with a big difference in ping to them. T1E errh fu, jk

Do play people with <=35ms because they get little compensation on their lg and rail making your dodging very viable against hitscan but in this case they're going to have good projectiles. Faerie <3's mah rikket and can't hit shit either

1. Isn't rate always recommended to be 25000 (and isn't it also capped at 25000 ?)

2. I guess cg_predictLocalRailshots is personal preference

It wasn't capped in cpm so I assumed it wasn't capped in ql, QL devs recommend 8000 , funny thing is I looked in one of cyphers old configs and found the rate at 8000 which is also default so I guess rate is not too big of a deal.

2. depends on your ping and if you're still affected by antilag. On high ping you need 0 to learn where to aim. Just like adjusted truelightning value.
