i still don't get the reason of all this whine.
the game is in beta so only a few people can play it and who is going to LANs has to join a team.
they know each other for a while and they have already played together in ql tdm.
not to mention the last quakecon tdm was won by a merc team but nobody complained.
the days of 2000-2002 where people actually cared about their own clan are over, just get over it.

about shootmania, nobody commentating these news in here has already tried it, so save your comments for later when you'll actually have something to say about the game.

the reason for this whine is that "our" leet players possibly leave quake for a bullshit game which weakens the community.
about the game you dont need to try it to compare it to quake.
-2 weapons !!!
-the vods speak for themselves
-graphics (for the graphic-lovers) is bad
-the maps from what ive seen are simple if not clumsy structured

shootmania atm got one competitive mode, which is kinda fun to watch... yeah its got 2 weapons, but noone said other gamemodes wont have more...

just wait till open beta

[ps. winz, whos part of beta testers said sm gonna have normal duel mode]

we saw one gamemode of sm, which i find fun for spectators, and some bacis mechanics that could still get improved... its rather too early to say if the game will be good or bad

no, as i've read above, nobody said that "game thats not quake is shit" ;
instead, i think that a great part of the attention it has is due to the willness of the players ( not only quakers) to see something new, something that is not the usual quake, something BETTER, if it is possible;
Judging from what we have seen so far, SM is not that case, and we whine because it could be an enermous flop, a resource drainer, a fake.
We are still waiting, and hoping.

What we saw was shit. There's little reason to think that the game will allow us to mod it heavily enough for it to get good. Besides, nobody would play a hardcore mode if they can play a shitty mode - it's like starting a quake game with only CA and expecting the whole scene to develop and popularize a duel scene.

Leaving a pretty robust product like QL, to a game that is supposed to implement in the future something similar to proper duels is very very close minded. Im not completely discarding it, but also it hasnt shown me something good enough to give them the chance. For the moment i know that the gameplay is shallow and they have good marketing resources (at least good compared to QL).

Ok guys, what we need:
- two weapons (coz 1 weapon isnt enouth and 10 is too much)
- timing multiple items? too hard for 10-15yo nerds, so fuck them off
- simple movment, no need to spend 100hrs to advance, good!
- map-design..well somthng like cs-maps gonna be poplr, hell yeah
- shitty graphics so every indian-poor-kid could play this 24/7
- and finally free LAN servers and map-editor...to troll id software
