String split does not account for the fact that in private servers there will be "M" for master or "@" for op

so for string like

It's .NET 4, but I don't think I'm using too many specific 4.0 features. It'll probably build under mono with a bit of effort. It could be fun to toy with that, I might give it a shot :)

I tried to build it earlier today in MonoDevelop. Got some errors, but didn't have the time to look further into it.

I tried the same, and after adjusting the project options and updating the HtmlAgilityPack.dll and Newtonsoft.Json.dll references, the project built perfectly. The thing is that apparently the Mono implementation of SWF's WebBrowser uses libgluezilla (that I don't have installed), so it doesn't run. Also, I saw a PInvoke somewhere that shouldn't be needed on Linux (wouldn't work either).

The current app actually embeds a browser into the GUI. You'd want to just gut that whole part of it, and hopefully the need for PInvoke goes away. The code that actually processes all of the user data ends up just writing to an html file in a system temp folder. You can pull it up in any browser.

Instead of starting the GUI, the app could just run on the systray and scan for the condump file(s) every second, for instance. It could even do more than just getting stats from QLRanks... Like running custom scripts if QL creates files with certain filenames.

It does scan for a particular file that gets condumped, but not manually. I use a FileSystemWatcher object, and it fires an event when the file is changed.

I think it would be better to run it in the system tray rather than have the results displayed in a GUI. For people with multiple monitors, the nice html output could be opened in a browser. For people with a single display, the new console based output could be dumped into the QL console.

I like how your program works.

The user binds a key which does 'players; condump' to get the list of usernames. Then scrapes the statistics page on quakelive and qlranks to get various data and sends it to a new window that formats it in a nice table.

I am wondering how you will get the data to render on the console again. Surely you could just write the data to a new file and have the user's bind key do an 'exec x.txt' which is filled with 'say' commands but you won't know when to invoke the exec.

If you wait an arbitrary but constant amount of time there is a non-zero chance that an http call could still be in progress so the 'exec x.txt' would fail. If quake had some form of 'if' or other conditional expression you could use toggle but it doesn't.

I think you can do it this way:

bind x 'players; condump xx.txt; wait 100; exec x.txt'

Where the program, upon seeing xx.txt has been updated, will immediately write out 'x.txt' which contains

'wait 100; exec x.txt'

And when the program finishes it can fill in x.txt with the 'say' commands. This won't work if quake disallows recursive exec's, I don't know if thats the case.

But anyway I saw some people were able to scrape qlranks and say player's elos in-game so i guess they must be doing a similar thing.

The way you do it is you have the program create the config file that another key is bound too. Initially, that config file just writes to the quake console "Results are still processing...", and later, once the processing is done, the program replaces that config file with one that has all of the stats, and dumps them to the console.

I can't take credit for the idea, I learned it from how the QLRanks guys did their in-game ELO announcer. It uses the same condump and keybind model.

I do pretty much have the formatted console output done. It's nice that QL uses a fixed width font in the console. Makes it easy to align everything like a table, when you're looking at multiple rows of data. Anyway, I haven't updated this in ages, but I'll probably take another look at it shortly. I have a few other QL related projects I want to start on too.....:D

I do play a sound file once qlranks query is done.

Doesn't the user have to know when processing finishes to know when to press the bound key which will exec the config file? How do they know when processing finishes?

I'd copy the way the QLRanks guys do it - the app in the system tray would play a sound so you know it's done.

You could do 'wait 100; exec x.txt' recursively until x.txt content was changed from 'wait 100; exec x.txt' to something else, as kazzmir suggested.

A bit of googling brings up a few obituary sites further confirming his unfortunate passing on the 17th of March, but nothing alludes to how it happened other than that it was 'sudden'.
