Good. From my experience shootmania is super boring to watch.
It doesn't stand a chance in comparison with quake duel/cs for viewer who doesn't play these games.
When it comes to more casual online fps TA is the winner atm.

I don't see why posts about Shootmania should be majored on ESR. The game is not released, most people haven't played it, all it's tournament presence is due to force by $$$, so there is basically zero information to judge the "majorness" of this news. It's fine if Dreamhack wants to accept it in tournament because they are paid money, but let's not make ESR a continuation of this deal, Nadeo hasn't paid anything to ESR, so there should be no reason to major a post about completely unknown game.

Actually, Q2 is one of Quakes and imo it fits here (at least the most important events should be mentioned here). E.g. I, for that matter, wouldn't have known about the EDL final tonight if it wasn't for that ESR news. The same with some nice CPMA cups. I like to watch them sometimes even though I don't play CPMA and I suppose there are more people who think like me because a lot of us come from QW, Q2 or Q3 :)

ESR is about e-sports. Shootmania is potentially important to e-sports, therefore all news about its progress in e-sports, such as being a competition at Dreamhack, are major.

we shouldn't use anything other than the fact that this game is being featured at a tournament, or that stermy is playing it. either of those are enough.

Why we normally would think that game appearing at DH and played by stermy is a major e-sports game? Because they have reputation which is enough for us to confirm validity of the game as a e-sports title, we trust their judgement because of all the history of goodness associated with them.
In this particular case, however, they didn't make any judgement for us to trust. They were simply paid money to use and play the game regardless of what it is. Why should we blindly repeat something that others chose to do only for a reward that we won't get anyway?
All this promotion and marketing is designed to trick us into believing that reputable people and organizations think it's a good e-sports game by imitating results of them thinking so (which are inclusion of SM into DH, and stermy and others participating in tournaments), but without actually requiring them to approve the game's qualities for e-sports, and that's why "this game is being featured at a tournament, or that stermy is playing it" should not be valid reasons to measure the majorness of Shootmania.

what you think is not ESRs concern. ESR is a communication platform, not an arbiter of what is true e-sport or "majorness" of a game. the fact that the developer and at least one player claim it to be an e-sports game is bar enough for the major news, and for you to argue about it. that's what communication is, and that's what ESR is for. now, go argue about Shootmania on the Shootmania forum with someone who actually cares about Shootmania.

But there were cases of various news majored and un-majored, so it is a concern to some extend, besides, why do we need this major/not-major thing anyway? Filtering and categorizing news is part of communication platform too.
I think that unknown game cannot be by default designated as major, and money contracts between various people unrelated to ESR, even if they are known and reputable people, should not affect this. It is still an unknown game and the only connection to e-sports that it has is that some famous people/organizations got money to be associated with it, nothing more.

the major/not-major thing is for relevance of the subject matter and quality of presentation. this site is all-inclusive, and people can post about their puppies for all I care, but that content wouldn't meet the minimal bar for the subject matter. shootmania progress as an esports game pretty much hits the bull's eye.

quake players are going to sopa (13k € prizepool) and Cybsum (8.1k € prizepool), i doubt any quakers would play shootmania at dh

Looking at the site for SOPA, it's only 3500€, with the rest seeming to be in goods. I don't know how many places that pays out to, or even the distribution between places, but even 3 would be pretty terrible. It's also a 3v3 tournament, so the prizes are split 3 ways.

As for Cybsum, it also appears to be a 3v3, with first place taking 1800€ - 600€ per player. That's only marginally better than DH, and still an absolutely terrible prize.

SC2 is doing pretty well internationally, and DOTA2 has an annual tournament with huge prizes. Last major DOTA2 tourney had a $1,600,000 prize pool.

So after a few hours i cant keep it up anymore its just utter utter shit, its truly the worst game i have played in ages, and that really is saying something. To sum it up
-no originality
-bad gameplay, in no way a competitive fps
-Dumbed down beyond belief
-More boring to watch as an esport than bowling
