the real reason that it's bullshit, is because 23 fps was chosen as the fastest framerate they needed to do back when they switched from silent films to sound, so that the sound could be synced by the brain to the video. funnily, everyone complained about that too. and when switching to color.

The Hobbit is filmed at 60fps, and is much more immerse, realistic and beautiful experience, despite all the whine from your peanut gallery.

Still, (35mm) film movies are (and have been for decades) shot at 24fps. And in theatres they're projected at 24fps.

When converting the film for television broadcast though, the film is speed up to 25fps for PAL and slowed down to 23.976fps and then telecined (via 2:3 pulldown) for NTSC.

So that's the one single reason where that odd "23.976" figure comes from. NTSC, a television standard, and nothing else.

To expand: I love mccormic. He's a cool dude. I just fucking despise how highly he thinks of himself and how lowly he thinks of literally EVERYBODY else. I have quotes from IRC of him shit talking the likes of Entik and KOS, saying how KOS is "only technically good", and how Entik "really isn't that good". He went on to mention how Celestia was the best Defrag movie ever. This attitude is so frustrating, that it's increasingly hard for me to like his movies every time he makes one, even though they aren't that bad (though his movies, such as Kleftogiannis, aren't nearly as good as Dorftrottel or The Contenders 2).

He is a cool guy though, when he isn't being a pretentious douche.

One being the fact that this post reveals more about him than the whole interview, the second one is reminding me about Dorftrottel.

1 - dorftrottel is definitively the 2nd best quake movie ever made (after gq3).
2 - hate freestyle 2 is the best defrag movie ever (celestia is still a work of art, though).
3 - entik and kos are both better and far more polished editors than mccormic (really didn't think kleftogiannis or the strenx movie was anywhere near the level of celestia)

In all fairness, I'm pretty sure mccormic didn't do the Strenx movie, but instead provided all the fx and did the 3D renders for it.

From somebody coming from an artistic angle, I wouldn't really expect knowing all the technical ins and outs. Analogue and digital video is an incredibly complex field, especially so when compression's coming into play (still pissed about all the bandwidth I've wasted during my time due to dl'ing amateurish, poorly done movie rips).

Problematic of course is pretending to posses the knowledge and making a fool out of oneself when talking nonsense. Although the foreign language may have also played a part in this case.

i dont think thats common in quake at all. i admit i cut out missed rails to make it look like a better sequence than it was but i guess thats within the artistic freedom

i do believe there are plenty staged frags in famous quake movies
