Only 3 maps? Why not include dm13 and T4 in case finals will be bo5?

Because most of the beginners only play ztn/dm6 and don't know shit about dm13 and how to play it. So I tought it would be much more enjoyable for the players and spectators (if there will be any) to play and watch maps that they know at least a little.

I don't know but I have several people in my contact list that are chillin around 1299-1399 ELO and in my eyes they are pretty hefty beginners.

Accuracies below 30% on Rail and LG (I myself don't hit 30% LG). Horrible timing (can't time even one item constantly). No propper Movement. No good mapknowledge. So 1399 ELO seemed a nice maximum for me. I could be wrong tough (ofcourse people with 1200 or even worse ELO will have a hard time but not as hard as if they would join a normal cup and get 1500+ ELO as opponents).

Just another confirmation that ELO system is far superior to what id software has in QL now. Can't imagine to see in requirements to newbies something along the lines "only players with sv_skillRating equal 10 or less are allowed".

-dm6 Yes dm6 is one of the most popular maps among the weaker players. Being one of them and playing many of them I have a feeling though that it's main player base consists of players from early ql days when it was the most popular map and they sticked to it like ztn players nowadays. Most of them plays casualy and don't want to improve so I don't think they need tournaments anyway. You can always make some folklore "dm6 only" tournament just like longestyard one(s).

+dm13 Imo this is the hardest map to get grasp of. I know 1600+ elo players who haven't learned it yet. On the other hand this is popular and excellent mainstream tournament map which every player should know. Playing it exercises very important skills less obvious on other maps. I think you should rather encourage players to learn it for this tournament. Again if it would stop someone from attending this tournament then he obviously doesn't want to improve and learn new things. I don't think such players deserve to have tournaments like this organized for them.

dm6 is pld a lot cause is fun, maybe the most fun map from the standard ones (along with ztn and t9). Aero, toxicity and hektik are also really enjoyable, but they are premium maps (I wish id would stop splitting the community like this). t4 is very hard for everyone with no q3 experience. t7 is really fun to watch and some ppl love to play it too.

dm13 is slow but I don't see how is it boring. Fighting for control on this map can last up to few minutes and this is the time when the most crazy and funny stuff happens. In lower tiers it's actually a high scoring map.
Can you explain what does make dm6 funnier than dm13? I don't have anything against it my point is just that dm6 is a relic map. If these players improve they will have hard time finding opponents on dm6.

in dm13 even if I play really well, I don't feel anything special. In other maps if u play a really good game is like orchestrating a masterpiece, like u r in the zone. In dm13 is like u r never in the zone, no matter how good u play (maybe except if u are some pro?). It doens't have any cool moves, it doesn't have rail and much action. t9 doesn't have rail too, but has a lot of action and flow that make up for it.

I partly disagree in this. It is more of a medium elo map and u can easily find up to 1900 elo opponents. If u want to find harder ones, then it will be hard anws for standard maps, since 2000+ elo players play mostly aero and other prem maps. I agree though that will be easier to find 1900+ elo players to play with in ztn or dm13 than dm6. It’s also easier to find below 1200 elo players in ztn than in dm6. I actually load ztn when haven’t pld for long time, since there is a bigger chance that someone weak will enter, than in dm6.

As I've said said the last time a simular cup was created. Best thing is to take the ELO at the time of the creation of the cup and disallow any account that are created after the announcement to prevent lamers ruining it for everyone ;)

also if u want "real" duel maps with real duelers and with real competition, then play in zotac that has both of the real maps u want.

imo doing different cups with different map pools and rules is good. I don’t get why everybody was doing mostly copy paste cups. I mean what their cup had to offer that lets say zotac didn't? Anyways, a beginner cup is a good idea, maybe it's time to sign up.

yea might be hard, especially above 1500 elo. Below 1400 I find it pretty easy to get control back, unless u r unlucky or don’t play good.

The thing is though, that once u get control back u can use it to get many frags and tie or win the game, unlike lets say ztn, where u can get control back and don’t even score a single frag for the rest of the game.

Let's say - for the statement's sake - that ELO means something in every case; with a 1639 ELO, it's natural you find it pretty easy to take control back below 1400 - if control was ever taken from you. We are talking about people here with roughly the same skills.

With roughly the same skills and a ELO range of 1000-1300 none of the two players will have real control. Control on dm6 means you have RA+MH+RG and steal YA on ocasion. Between two beginners none of them will controll the rail propperly and you almost always will be able to steal either RA or MH because they don't split/time them propperly. For beginners dm6 is a very fun and nice map to play imo. It totally changes once you know what you are doing on it, then it gets stressing as hell and not enjoyable at all.

Btw. Stop asking for dm13 or t4, the mappool is ztn, dm6, t7 :).

dm13 is way to complicated for beginners, they won't get even 20% of it's tactical potential out of it in a match.

t4 is just plain boring on low level.

I used to be pretty good on dm13 when I was 1200 elo.
Tbh I only improved in terms of aim on this map and I'm still pretty good there.

It's just the matter of playing the map. It doesn't require many advanced skills like timing (often mh is enough) armors cycling (going for 2nd ya is usually too greedy), hard aiming angles (t7) or complicated topography (ztn). Imho ztn is the most complicated map to learn. It involves all these elements.

No as in:

The map has a tactical depth that can't be found in any of the other competitive maps. Timing MH isn't enough, you need to time at least MH+RA if not MH+RA+YA. Going for second YA as in you have MH+RA+YA isn't needed but damaging your opponent when he takes it is very desirable since he won't have any armor beside the shards and you have time on it which basically means you will know when he will be at it the next time so you can set up a good trap. Getting all the armors into one cycle most likely will guarantee yourself one or several kills or at least it will knock the other dude out of the match for several minutes. If by topography he means positioning he's again wrong, because positioning on dm13 is crucial to winning or loosing fights.

Saying that you were good on dm13 with ELO 1200 is either showing that you are an amazing quake-player with lots of potential (can't tell cuz don't know his QLNick) or you don't know shit about the map. I'm 1400 ELO, played several hundreds of dm13 games and I still can't say that I know the map on a high level or can play it very well.

Positioning is crucial on every map. Also inflicting unanwsered damage at power ups if possible. That's where positioning comes in the picture - you need a good trade, but that's true to other maps as well.

You have go to the upper center for rockets at least once, but you need 100 / 150 AND an lg to relatively safely do so.
RA is in a very vulnerable position, so it's not REALLY necessary to take it, only if you know that the opponent is on the other side of the map or if you know that he doesn't have a rl, otherwise it can be really risky.
Playing the weaker side of the map with +back rockets and +forward plasma in the thight corridors can be quite effective. If you successfully steal the MH once, you can start playing a MH, one YA, shards game and be at the center as much as possible to prevent the RA pickup - or make it useless with a load of damage.
Either way, if you are relatively good at the defensive game (well-placed rockets, plasma, nade-spam -even point-blank shotgun shots at corners - AND positioning), you can force out unfavorable situations for your opponent, a bit easier than on other maps.
But that's just my opinion.

There are well known reasons why dm6 isn't included in the "real" (= competitive) duel maps anymore. And the mappool in a noob cup is not a matter of life and death, this is just my personal opinion. Thanks.

Well, you haven't looked properly then. Go to page 5 of my recent games and you'll clearly see that I was at 1380 ELO - that is when i signed up. The reason I did sign up was basically because I thought it would be fun to play in a tournament as I have never done so before. I probably won't have time to play anyway, but either way I'm sure the admins will take good care of that and disallow me from playing if my ELO is too high. I can't see why it's such a big deal that you have to come in to a server when I'm playing and rant at me and telling me I suck and calling me a retard and so on, "bot_boy".

the graph on qlranks shows that your usual elo is higher than 1399, it just dropped within one session bellow it, so you can register, and then elo raised again.

My Elo has been under 1400 many times before, two times the last 30 days. Therefore you are still wrong. I just don't understand why you'd think I'd lie about dropping my ELO on purpose, if I had done so I would have told you, and as I've insinuated I'm not taking this cup too serious, I just wanted to play a cup for fun and experience and I figured as I pretty often lose to people below 1400 ELO I might just be suited for the cup, because I do consider myself partly a beginner even though I've played quite a few games. For else, players like Fragmaster and Xtro might not be considered beginners even though they have below 1400 ELO, but I don't know.

Once again, I have no reason whatsoever to ruin a beginner's cup, and if people (especially the admins) do not want me to play then of course I won't. And as I said I will most likely not have time to play anyway, so no worrys Anonymous. Twister does have a pretty valid point as well.

I wrote in the rules for the cup (which you should read before signing up, you can find them here) that I will manualy check every participants QLRanks-Profile before allowing him into the cup. You had the urge to join servers with people who signed up for the cup and spamm/whine to them about them being so unfair and signing up for the cup. You wasted time on checking their QLR and QL-Profiles. Why would you do that if you chill and only make fun of the cup? To me it seems more like you are angry because there is the possibility of better players or fake-accs signing up for the cup and winning it taking your chance to get some of the prizes.

There is always the possibility of a fake-acc in a cup. That's why I want to check them all manually. During the first CPM Newbie Cup the top 2 consisted of players who could be considered noobs because they didn't play CPM for a long time, but one of them was tutored by one of the best CPM players around. They both had good movement, aim, timing and prediction. Still the cup was fun and entertaining.

miso has an ELO of 1209 and has only played 339 duels so far. Technically he is absolutely valid to enter the cup. Only thing that would disqualify him is, that he played over 1.8k of TDM matches, a total of 3.1k matches and plays for mamut. I will think about it.

Same problem with xtro. ELO - ok, played duels - ok, total games - not ok. Again will think about it.
