Nothing a computer does approaches true randomness. Most computers attempting to pick "random" numbers actually get them from a static data bank of pre-generated random numbers. If you are looking for as close to random as possible, then look at the selection methods used in major lotteries (I.e., numbered ping pong balls stirred by an air current). The physical dynamics in such systems are very complex (see Lorenz effect) and yield much "more random" numbers than any computer.

you are right, the "cv random 6" in quake is not at all suitable to determine the next map by random. someone should give mr. lorenz lotto a call
