this. the original script dates back to the osp days and there used to be two versions, one by godsmurf of cicatrix/clanbase and one made by sujoy ...of esr. it's been debated over and over again and has never been considered a cheat for the above mentioned reasons.
honestly it doesn't give you that much of an advantage... I know all the times by heart and I'm way quicker than a guy that would use that... Only advantage would be to be able to remind yourself through chat history but it's marginal to say the least, like 120hz or good ping or wmo.
I'm not a great dueller, but my weakest area is timing. I just tend to forget about it when I'm fighting.
Given what I read here, it seems I could make a script that would do a lot of it for me. E.g. press a button when pickup item, remind me 5 secs before it's going to spawn again. Or perhaps update me every so often of the order of items spawning.
it's not really usable in duel, in q3 you could use echo to display the timings but even then... you'd have to let go off one hand to type in the numbers and then press a "repeat" button to get them to display.
doesn't make much sense and i know of no one ever using it that way, it is much much easier to just have someone standing behind you doing the timing, if you really need outside help with adding +25/+35 to a number.
I had made a script in q3 where u were using the scroll. It was so fast that u were losing almost no time. At that time, they were not considered as cheats (I guess neither now). I wrote it mostly for fun and never used it, since it's easy to add 2 numbers anw.
ah, yeah i remember scripts like that. i had one where you could fine-tune an already set item cycle with the scroll wheel (add/substract seconds) and either submit or repeat the time with mouse3. still, if someone wants to have an edge, nothing easier than having one bored friend standing behind you timing.
It's not the adding I have trouble with, just forgetting to look at the clock later, or forgetting the number.
[edit] anyway.. seems pretty slow/limited if you have to type in the number, so I can see why there's not much fuss about it.
I suppose, if you set it to print it instead of saying it, and set the screen time to 25-35 seconds depending on armor or mega, then you could have what is basically an onscreen reminder, and some advanced scripting would allow you to simply press 1 key for the delay on each pickup instead of re-setting it on each pickup.
I remember seeing an old cfg made by either rocketboy or jibo where it was basically a whole series of /waits and /plays of sound files of sarge grunting and slash screaming, mimmicking them having sex
He used multiple waits to set the adecuate delay between sounds being played.. afaik.
