None of my friends are interested in playing games competitively, and they definitely will not play with me (I was beating them like 40 - 0 10 years ago)

I think Quake will continue to survive and continue to be played for years to come, but there isn't really any way we can grow it. The number 1 requirement is for PC to become the number 1 gaming platform again. And then we need a new Quake. If that happens and full support is put behind it, kind of like the amount of support valve puts behind their games.

I talk to my sisters about quake-live but in very vague terms obviously I wouldn't convince them to play. In addition yeah most of my friends aren't competitive either so quakelive doesn't appeal to them.

I also think Quake will continue to be played of course i'm not one of those quakelive is dead bandwagons people. But I think other PC games are doing well for them selves like LoL and SC2. So quakelive and fps games in general has a shot. In my opinion I think babies steps is a more realistic way for quakelive opposed to id releasing a new quake with new skins. (or both ways, a improved quakelive and then a pretty version of it down the road)

I completely guarantee that FPS will return. (Well COD and Battlefield appear to do very well??) In what form however, I do not know.

how do you expect a platform to become dominant when it requires the most inteligence? If you are trying to get a decent or good pc and you are on a budget (which is still common today, that you cannot allow yourself to buy something on a double price just cuz its in a ready to go state) you have to have some knowledge, you might aswell put a pc togeather from its parts, while you are looking for a console you have a, b , c to pick from and you are done, you just hook it up with the tv and you are done, just as hard as your regular console games are (sorry but aimassist alienates me way too much) . I assume you clearly see where the world is headed now, simplicity and mass production, you dont think, you just buy it, even if its a dud you take it back and you might get it 11 times from the original price becouse of the warranty but you will be a part of the mass production, which is a way of life today. But installing a game on a pc and setting it up on various platforms will result in some thinking again, and you don't need to be reminded again.

You can easily build a gaming machine for the price of a PS3 these days. And people NEED pc's. If they have to have a computer, what is the point of getting a computer and a console?

The problem with PC games is ease of use at the moment, however many console gamers are realising that PC is far cheaper, when it comes to purchasing games, and it's not thhhhaaaat hard to learn how to setup new games.

I dunno.. why do mainstreme gaming sites like to talk about fighting game/moba tourneys but not quake ones? I always see EVO coverage and then when Quakecon is brought up there is never even a mention of the quake tournament being played during it. In fact there is usually zero mention of quake altogether :| It is strange indeed.

i dont talk about quake irl cos my friends dont care. they sometimes try talk to me about red dead redemption or smth else and i dont care either. so we dont talk about computer games, end of story.

Most of my friends/relatives/colleagues are non or very casual (wii sports like casual) gamers that have this strange gaze in their eyes whenever I mention competetive gameplay and fast paced FPS feeling that quake can offer.

I stopped talking about hardcore gaming/PC gaming completely because I can just read out what their mind is going through. They are silently categorizing you as immature or not in line with the 'real world'. Something that the new generation will have less problems with I suppose ..

(Sadly, the new generation likes to have shit inserted intravenously as they massively flock like dumb sheep to realistic shooters every 2 months when a new COD is released)
