i heard that too, honestly i never searched about the proofs, because it would be more surprising if he wouldn't have cheated.... i mean, think about the feel outro.... not human, definitely;
about the proofs, i've read that some big pieces of the defrag community talked to him and decided to cancel a lot of his world records;

i remember cos (the maker of f33l) saying that the movie itself was done relatively quickly, but it took like 3 or more months just for w3sp to get that final castle run done, and cos was basically waiting for him to finish it just so he could release the movie. so i doubt that is cheated.

yeah he is quite good, you know, without a solid proof claiming someone cheats it's like not giving credit to what he did, he can play piano very very good too, he has the patience and the talent to learn stuff you know

all i know about that story is that some important peoples of the defrag community talked with w3sp and decided to cancel many of his records; and that w3sp ever refused to do these runs, but mostly the final castle run in public, or even to give demos; not that a demos could have proved without doubts his guilt, like never does, but, like they claimed, you simply cannot perform a run like that without recording a demo and saving it in several copies in different external memories, so why to not give that demo?

That definition is too vague to apply to bunny hopping specifically, imo. The technique is actually described in the esr article you linked:
Bunny hopping, developed originally in QW, allows the player to move fast and retain directional control. The classic way to explain how to bunny is this: Start by performing a circle jump:- both forwards and strafe are held, tight circle, get as far and as fast as you can. As you land, release the forward key so that only one of the strafe keys is held. Now bounce along, hitting jump just before you land, holding only a strafe key. You should be able to accelerate, again this is done by moving the mouse. Move your mouse in the same direction that you are strafing (ie. left strafe, move mouse left).

maybe because Q3/QL dont have bunny hopping only strafe jumping? im not sure if the video maker knows the difference tho =). but QW and PK is really missing.

all decent players know strafe jumping is present in almost every single fps game.

For example CoD kids get amazed with the easiest tricks ever. If only they knew about QL.

seen them and did some when I played cod4. Those aren't difficult by any means: strafe, land on the right spot while running, strafe once again. As for rocket jumping there are plenty of tutorials.
In general terms all CoDs are about knowledge and experience, not raw skill. For example positioning is of the essence, with literally dozens of angles in all maps.

I'm no defrag master or something lol. These days I could probably do 6 out of 8 strafe pads (not the 2 difficult ones) and defrag-like plasma climbing is still a mystery to me.

ok, but then you shouldn't act like if quake was the only skilled game: the cods trickjumps are way more difficulty to do than what they seems, and mostly, the major part of the quakers cannot even strafe jump properly, they just bounce around, hitting corners, gaining ridicolous speeds and exposing theirself to rail shots or rockets.
Not to mention the advantaged jumps..... i wonder how many quake players could effectively do the bridge to rail jump in campgrounds, better don't talk about the rail to bridge.

of course not. My point is strafe jumping is in almost every single game, and the CoD series movement feels sexy because they still use the quake3 engine to this day.

I'd agreed with b2r if it was q3, but in ql it's quite easy. Not something a completely new fps player can pull off in a day (2gd's tutorials in which a sc2 player falls down for exactly 3 hours lol), but maybe in 2.

afaik, actually the cods engines are not based on the q3 ones;

Sure, in ql bridge to rail is easier than it was in q3, but still the major part of the players cannot do it (at least in a useful percentage of correct jumps), not to mention the reverse jump; and the major part cannot even strafejumps around the maps or in a straight line gaining enough speed, they just bounce around in some way; that to say that it doesn't matter if moving in quake requires more skill: a lot of players simply doesn't have that skill

no.
Vector movement and all the things that makes possible to bunny hopping comes out from any basical physic, if not corrected/removed; that is how it was born, as an "error", an accident, and in most of the modern games, to balance, it is removed, for example in L4D: if you keep jumping, you feel a "brake" in the air.

And the modern COD engines have been created from zero, so there is nothing of the thech3 anymore.

tbh I haven't played the latest cod yet, but in all the rest movement feels exactly the same as q3 without bunny jumping

By Exelent nex1  - Reply to #36
so you didn't understand what i wrote.... the "exactly the same as q3 without bunny hopping" is a consequence of the vectorial movement, the simplest kind of movement possible to create in a videogame; every single fps, with any single engine, has it, if not removed; here's why it happens:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_%28geometric%29

It has NOTHING to do with the q3 game engine residues;

p.s.: as far as i know, q3 doesn't have bunny hopping; cpma has it, and in fact is almost unplayable for many players: too much difficult to manage properly.
