The only thing which requires skill and has ever been connected with MLG is Starcraft 2. Respect to those guys, high-level RTS has always been difficult. Otherwise ... bullshit.
open new browser, vote with new account, etc. use even the private browsing (that shit the browser devs invented for porn). use proxies. install tor, click your ass off.
edit: also vote every day you can. as much as you can.
Things change. Quake seem to be more and more respected and mentioned especially in the various SC2 shows.
Personally I think people would fall in love with QL if it was presented alongside SC2 at the MLG events. They need to have it served to them first though...
It was presented to them in Dreamhack, IEM and some other events. And it was respected the same within the SC community back then, too. Didn't help the standalone events get many viewers, however. What we need is interest from the game itself. Either that, of a hell of a lot more advertizement.
At MLG they present their games with proper production. At dreamhack we saw some guys casting casually a tournament from a big LAN. Not great studio production like we see it in MLG.
Also the reoccurring events make room for character and story development which is hugely important for people to become interested in the players and furthermore fans. A single event here and there will never offer that for the new viewers.
Im furthermore sure that MLG will hire some casters to present the game better than it is now. We are all Quake fans so the esoteric and casual approach to casting our weekly matches are not for newcomers. Imo we need casters that can bring excitement and passion to the commentary like Joe, 2GD and djWHEAT does. I'm sure MLG would hire casting of such if they picked up the game.
My point is that MLG would bring the presentation to a higher and more professional level, that would appeal much more to the average esport fan. At least thats what i have seen them do with Starcraft 2...
altho id like to see quake being picked up by such a wealthy organization, on the other hand i think mlg is very far from living up to quakes legacy (i mean what the game would truly deserve)
I'll repeat what I said in other post.
Voting is passive measurement of interest and support, you cannot change anything by voting, because the amount of people who are willing to vote for QL is determined by events that happened months and years before. Voting just displays that number, nothing more.
Let me guess, you have missed my whole point?
Voting is like a tournament. If you are noob, you will not win it.
Asking to vote in hope for MLG to pick up QL is like asking tier 1 noobs to play in Quakecon in hope that they beat cypher.
You don't beat cypher by entering a tournament.
Voted even tho it's just a feedback/suggestion forum. I doubt that even the game that gets the most votes (Team Fortress with almost 10K at the moment) will be included.
MLG production and focus on competition (as opposed to, say, selling rage/doom3/doom4/bawls) would go a long way. However, you can't force people to like Quake.
For half the audience at a given event, unless you can go back in time 15 years and make them understand why WE love quake, they aren't going to care. You can get them hyped about some overtimes or air rockets in one or two games, but they won't go home and start supporting quake. The barriers to entry are too high, and composed of things that have nothing to do with gameplay (paying fees for QL, awkward insular community around q3/cpma/wsw/...).
The reason SC2 is the hot topic in esports isn't because it's at MLG/DH. It's because everyone can set it up and play it the same way the pros do, but they can see themselves how they're different. Just like kids playing street hockey and then watching the NHL.
