That is the monitor DaHanG has and recommended to me. I'm also considering that monitor. Just wondering if the difference with the BenQ is worth the price point.

Also, LG and Samsung are both S. Korean companies. They get a lot of their parts from the same companies. IOW, might as well buy a shitty Samsung

I've had my LG for 2 years or so, and I have had no problems. I've dropped it off the back of my desk a few times and still no problems.

I think it's worth the price personally.

99% it's the electrolytic caps on the input power filter, you can replace them for a couple of euros, a solderer and ~1/2h of work.

How though? I was under the impression that 120 was the max that could be sent through Dual-link DVI.

I guess its possible somehow, I dunno. I'd rather see 160 or even 240hz :D I mean, can you even see the difference beetween 120 and 144?

Looks like the 144 Hz might be possible:

The DVI spec states that a single-link DVI is 2.75 megapixels at 60 Hz. So a dual-link could do the same at 120 Hz.

This display is running 1920x1080 which is only 2.07 megapixel.

So, theoretically there is bandwidth left over. Whether or not this extra bandwidth can be used in such a way as to allow 144 Hz I do not know.

Dual-link DVI doesn't really have a limit actually, it can go as far as the copper quality and the GPU will let it. Dual link DVI is NOT 2x single link DVI.
Even wiki says it :
"Bitrate (Single link) 3.96 Gbit/s
(Dual link) Limited only by copper bandwidth limitations, DVI source limitations, and DVI sync limitations."

2560x1440 @ 120-130hz has been done on those now famous Catleap monitors.

I agree with you, but I don't like "copper bandwidth limitations", since you should consider all the connector parasitics, cable length, ... it's better to say it's a physical limit of the entire standard.

by the way, here there are some specs about DVI & co., I guess it could be useful for some /b/ros here :)

tl;dr
In order to check if your setup can be supported by this standard, multiply your WxH resolution by your F monitor frequency.
IE: 1920x1080 @60Hz makes WHF=124

not sure if i'm supposed to answer. with my post i wanted to express that 144 Hz is nonsense. 120 is far superior - unless you claim you will feel a difference and it will make your gaming better i guess.

you can just say 120+hz is ok, it's like mouse dpi.
but this bloody 3d... is anyone using it?? you add 100+EUR to the price of your screen, and that's just for something you will never use.

I have a samsung 2233rz, the benq xl2420t and a g420 CRT.
While the samsung always felt like a questionable compromise compared to the CRT (less space/power consumption, bigger screen, lots of blur), the benq's advantages outweight the qualities of a good CRT. Blur isn't that noticable, 1920x1080 screen > 19".

Only thing the samsung is better is contrast and colors at darker settings. My benq shines like the sun even with brightness 0.

But overall its an upgrade so go for it.

Yeah I like my 2233rz, it's just important that's it's 120 hz forme . what setting do you use for your samsung

I use it only rarely these days, playing on the benq now. For qw with no picmip:

brightness: 100 (had to crank it up since otherwise it hums)
contrast: 52
gamma mode: 2
red: 40
green: 35
blue: 33

mine doesn't hums at 100 and 70

what do you mean with hums? I use your settings now very bright but good for gaming

My monitor starts humming when brightness is above 0 or less then 100, the more to 50, the louder.

I still don't notice it , but that's probably i dont care about it. and brightness 100 kills eyes

Well, maybe you're lucky. And, IIRC LCDs don't really understand the concept of contrast, so I use the contrast switch to adjust brightness:P

IF you have several different profiles to choose from you might want to try a little util called displayprofile.

btw, I used their settings as far as they were shown in that article, still bright as sun:P

recently switched from a 60hz 19' to the benq xl2420t.

it's simply awesome although I don't have any previous experience with other 120hz models, which means I can't really compare.

Besides being stilish as fuck (black+red matches my desk "setup" perfectly), the height regulation system is very comfortable, the colors which are horrible out-of-the-box can be regulated pretty neatly, the whole setup is intuitive and offers tons of options if you care about them and, most importantly, I haven't noticed any real ghosting with AMA (ovedrive) on.

I was torn in the choice between the LG W2363D, the acer gd245hd and this one: I'm happy I chose the latter.

So would you say it's a well-regulated monitor?

I would, if only I didn't lack the technical knowledge and experience to compare it with other models.

It's infinitely better than my old crappy 60hz 19' for sure and, in my opinion, it's worth the money since, to me at least, it doesn't show any sign of reverse ghosting which some reviews mentioned.

it has a controller as well to switch between 3 customizable profiles and browse through the setup, which is pretty handy if you play 4:3/etc, or would simply like quick access to different settings for different purposes/games/programs.

Mind that I'm easily satisfied, which means you might not like these different "colours" as much as me.

The only drawback is having those two CounterStrike guys , "spawn" and "heaton" or whatever they're called, printed on the box posing like humongous douchebags, if you ask me.
Now, THAT really bothered me.

did you use tftcentral ICC profile for your calibration ?

nope did it upon personal preferences, only thing I copied were the brightness values (very bright monitor, 0-40/100 is more than enough)
