One thing to think about is even if you ban freecam, how can anyone ever track someone freecaming when they die?

In competitive matches you have demos. If you suspect the enemy team is using freecam, ask for the demo and watch it with timescale. Freecam doesn't matter much on public servers.

The way I understand CA is that dead players are a disadvantage resulted after either poor play or misfortune. Either cases, I see no space for adding a tactical advantage awarded for playing bad, even when of questionable nature like freecam/ghosting.

Maybe this should be an issue to talk to id software about, like maybe having a setting in server setup that allows no freecam when dead?

But really, it's part of the game right now, so it's not cheating. Anybody claiming it's a cheat or wallhacks is just butt hurt.

If ID wants to remove it, so you can only spec living teammates, that'd be fine, but it's their option. Would be nice as an option on spawned pro servers.

right now every player in competetive CA has to record demos, so it can be checked up on if they did.

hey sync, can you remove freecam on ca? You know, like it was for 15 years?

imo it should be votable atleast on premium servers but first they should fix telefrags on CA, on duel or tdm i can understand that but on public ca those fuckers are blocking tele exits which is lame :E

It has always been my opinion that freecam should never have been allowed in Clan Arena. I'll see if I can either get it removed, or at the least have a Start-a-Match option introduced to allow server owners to disable it.

If it isn't removed I think SaM should be the opposite: freecam disabled by default, option to turn it on.

Cool, hope you are able to get that done. Also, I agree with megaman3 on the SaM option disable by default if that is the path chosen. Honestly, I'm on the fence whether or not it should be disabled on public servers, I rarely see anyone abusing ghosting in public CA and that is 90% of what I play in QL. It is nice to be able to float around randomly and watch from 3rd person, but obviously I think 99.9% of the player base (you and myself included) agrees it should not even be possible in any form of competitive play.

There is still a lot of support to allow freecam on pubs. Mostly because it is a casual mode, and many would like it to stay that way.

In regards to how SaM defaults, the general rule is that a server should have pub-defaults when launched in SaM, unless you specify otherwise.

What about the telefrags ? Could you implement something similar to RA3, where telefragging is impossible. Basically when you take the teleport and someone else takes it at the same time, it bounces you away from the tele exit, but doesn't make a telefrag.

I think you do get that if it isn't disabled in pub play/default settings then it's a worthless change.

Could be fixed with a callvote option though, that's available in all servers (standard and premium pubs) and not only when spawning servers.

Yeah the more I think about it, I tend to agree with the option of allowing freecam in public play. Ah, that makes sense for SaM, it probably should stay that way. I guess just make the option very clear for SaM that it is left in freecam mode unless you change it.

by default, you are not allowed to spectate other team after you die.
so why should you be able to go into freecam and hover over enemy model, thereby achieving the same thing? might as well enable spectating of enemy team...

Um no I like freecam. It keeps me warmed up, because I'm constantly still moving around. If we remove it CA is gonna be full of baiters and no one is gonna take charge and rush the opponent.

It's always been part of my tactic to kill the opposing team's top player to force him to spec his lesser skilled teammate so he can get annoyed and "cool down". Been using this tactic since 2010 and 60% of the time it works everytime.

Don't care about this issue really, but I wouldn't mind if it was removed.

edit: the reason why I don't care is because both teams can do it and if it really bothers them that someone did it once they should start doing it as well. However, it makes sense to remove it if majority of people want that.

It's nice for pubs when you got an enemy that just wants to hide out some place (think campingtroll or equivalent).

If I remember correctly, in RA3 you could view freecam as well as seeing enemy pov. But when it came to matches there was a competitive option you could vote to turn on. In the competition mode when you died you had like a black screen with just the ra3 logo but could still hear sounds. If you wanted to watch your teamates which were still living you could but there was no freecam allowed. Seems like a very fair system to me.

Well, LOLCA but really, such a big fuss over comp CA.
Just do what the euros did in the last IGL and ESL CA comps. Gather in one spot, fight to the death. Rounds ended in less than 30 seconds. Much better than the "we'll both camp for ages waiting for each other to move"

then you might also remove the ability of any forms of spec unless they are admins of the cups and disable the website chat during cup games.
