I liked Roughinery (UT2k4) but I wouldn't say it's the best duel map. Not sure what I think the best one is, there's so many.

It would become a slower map but I think the general layout is really suitable for quake 3.

im sure ive seen it converted to something else? cant remember what though.

I attempted to make a version for warsow called wswacred, but the project never really got finished and noone seems to have the map files anymore :(

as for warsow well acidwdm2 is the biggest legend of this game and I agree with that, but at first I prefered wdm1 over it, cause around 0.1 you could win on it with map control against cpm players with superior movement. The pre 0.5 wdm14 was fine too, cause you could play it smart. Many people said it was too easy to run away on it, but that actualy was one of the very few maps on which I could catch my opponent.

I hated every UT game but I loved Turbine.

turbine kicks ass, both in TDM and in 1v1 :>

Unless you are on reciving end of 6x monster kill (10frags) which happened once in Nations Cup final :P But I guess thats also an unusual aspect of that map :P

There was an active mapping scene for qw. After Dapak from headshot and danimal(?) the quality went up a lot.

A lot were good, on aerowalk level.

Even though I enjoyed Rankin alot back when I played UT2k4 I must say that the most sophisticated duel map design I've ever seen is aerowalk in its many forms. Especially hub in q3 is fucking awesome.

I deeply hope that it finds it way into QL some day (hopefully soon).

why is there so much aerowalk love? I like it a lot and I like it more than most of the other mainstreak duel maps from qw/q2/q3 BUT there are a lot of maps, at least in qw/q2 that are comparably good.

Even dm4 could play as well with some minor tweaks.

Saying aerowalk is the best map shows a huge lack in understanding of what a balanced duel map should be like.

However, if we are only talking fun/entertainment, then I can agree, the imbalanced maps are the most fun to play casually for me personally.

In tournaments however, I only picked the map when I knew I could outskill and rape the opponent or when I knew I had a little chance to beat them. Because a good start might be more than enough to win a aerowalk game. (same goes for tox/hektik/silence).

The big problem is, that when people reach a certain level of map knowledge on these small/fast maps, options are very limited for players wanting to regain map control.

I agree with you and vote aerowalk as best quake map.

It's far from balanced or perfect for tournaments, I just like it in an unusual arousing way.

wdm17 by far the most fun map to play in Warsow. Quake Live I'd say Aerowalk or Furious Heights. CPMA definitely cpm3a. Quake 4 Placebo Effect. Painkiller I would go with DM_Psycho. UT2k4 Roughinery or Lea. Quake World it's DM4 for sure.

bloodrun aka ztn is quite possibly the best 1v1 deathmatch map for quake3 / quakelive, because it can be played with any style as long as you have the necessary skills.

When I started playing quake, I always enjoyed playing dm1(the one without the lightning gun and rocket launcher), as at that time I used to play my brother and friends, usually through all the quake dm maps 1v1.

ZTN, I think an updated version would be great though, just something subtle to add a new dynamic, I dunno a teleporter, or just something to change the pace while retaining the flow and weapon usage that has proven to work so well.

change the teleporter ont he lower ya to stairs to be a two way. less running!
