Just interesting really. Black Mesa was originally intended as 'HL1 with modern graphics', but now the new engine is older than the old engine was when the new version was announced :o
I agree that Source is good enough. But HL1 was really good in its own right, crummy graphics or not, and without the drawcard of stunning modern graphics, I'm not sure what Black Mesa will bring.
- It's HL related. Everything HL related is baller.
- It gives the chance to play HL1 all over again, but combined with the experience of playing a completely new game.
- It doesn't how old the new engine is... it looks fucking awesome anyway.
- It's free!
- HL!
It's HL1 totally remade using the source engine, it's made by fans and it's free (as opposed to HL:Source which only changed some textures and models and shit.)
I hope I'm wrong, but this wont be worth playing.
According to some old posts on the forums there wont be any worthwhile movement physics.
That means no competitive speedrunning, and no skill or fun in online multiplayer.
HL, minus half its tight feel and all its replay value, basically.
Play any of the OrangeBox Engine games, try to strafejump or bunnyhop, or even just aim at something.
That wretched, oversmoothed, unrewarding feel is all you should expect from this garbage.
Maybe it'll be open to modification?
If so, DFCPM is the first necessary addition for this to be even worth a download.
unfortunately yes :/ xen will be added freely if you've already purchased the game.
Disappointing move, this started as a completely free and independently made mod, and as such you wasn't even allowed to criticize their artistics and gameplay modifications choices.
Nicerdicer keeps dying cos he doesn't use alt fire on shotgun and walks past enviro-suit recharges, inferno of holysh1t tv keeps falling down holes and nVc got killed by a fish.
After playing some early access it's pretty clear why there is no xen yet. They seem to have put some effort in the multiplayer and its maps. The blood and gore is awesome too.
