You definitely want to drop crossfire/SLI and get a high powered single GPU. Micro stuttering is waaaay common with multi GPU setups. Just go single card and be amazed.

Trust me on this one. I know someone who SLI'd GTX 670s (i think they were 670s) and had amazing frame rates on BF3 at 2560x1440 res and high settings, but he still had stuttering.

Nah from what I know 2GB is fine for your resolution, you can pretty much pack on the textures and AA without problems.

3GB and 4GB may be useful for very specific games played using specific settings at ridiculous resolutions. I'm talking 30" monitor resolutions with lots of AA and stuff. Multiple monitor setups will make good use of it no doubt. Future games with ridiculous textures may also benefit, but you won't see that kind of game for a while yet I'd wager.

The benefits of 4GB of vram are not worth the performance cost (stutter) of going multi-GPU in any way though.

The PC port of GTA4 was extremely VRAM intensive. It is impossible to max out the resolution, texture quality, and view distance without having at least 2GB of VRAM.

I'm assuming that GTA5 will eat up even more VRAM.

Yeah some specific games do need more. GTA IV brings back fond memories actually, using a quad core CPU had such a massive performance increase compared to dual core (even with the dual at higher clock speeds) and no one could explain why :)

With SLi also consider the power consumption and its costs in terms of money, versus 1 single more expensive card's consumption and heat production in your case.

Also, a single card will produce less heat and reduce case temperatures, plus the inside of my case won't be such a jumble of wires.
