Thought of this ages ago but just felt it was one of those things that is your fault if you are not around. I missed the train last week cos I was trolling something online till the last minute.

That was my fault. But for places like china or those where the game is not that popular it could be good.

But I think if there was an audio queue, and as long as you reacted within 20 seconds it could be a good idea.

Some kind of in game IRC room would be better though where you could prompt other users and provide links to join.

Or just alt+tab.

Some sort of Duel Detective, or something. Personally I believe the best way to increase duel activity is to duel more. But in terms of promotion it's simply a matter of garnering interest.

There is a registered list of duellers looking for partners here. This was created via the subreddit /r/quakelive. It may be the last update as Raziel2p, the moderator of the subreddit, has expressed intentions to move onto other things due to time constraints.

Now: If you're simply wish to find a duel and are looking for a way to queue up then join a duel server and click spectate. Once another player connects and joins the match you should be placed into the game automatically. [Verify?] At which time you will hear the sound of A) being placed into the match and B) your opponent running around shooting your AFK model. That is your audio queue.

Good idea though, wish I got to use the Duel Detective more.

Best way to increase Duel activity is for Duel to be a more popular game type. Just seems to me people would rather spam and troll in Clan Arena or Free For All than play one on one matches. It's a shame since Duel is the best one on one experience available in FPS games. It would be interesting to find out which tiers Duel is most popular in. I'm assuming the most popular tier is 4, which suggests the learning curve is a little too steep for casual players. Maybe if somebody put together a fancy Duel video tutorial it would bring new faces to the scene.

The best way to increase duel activity is an integrated chat client, with rooms based on locations (US, southamerica, etc.) and match types (duel, seeking friendlies for all mods, general chat). Press a link like that greasemonkey script and you are playing immediately.

Now that we have an external skill-rating system, we can have an external match-making system. It's a pretty big job but it seems doable.

We could make a userscipt adding a little graphical interface to QL's website (like below the online friends list or something) with a button "Available for duel". Click there and you will be added to a list of all match-seeking duelers on QLRanks' backend. It will then send you the name and elo of every player from that list that fits your criteria (acceptable location and, range, ignored players... stored in a local config file, sent with the request) if you fit their. Maybe QL's chat interface and XMPP capabilities could even be re-used, bypassing the friends list so you could chat with them without having to be their friends. Then you can agree on a server and stuff. Joining a server would take you off the list. There could even be nice little sound notifications (like one of Drayan's script does) when you received a message or a new player fitting your criteria adds himself to the list.

But it's only an idea. I won't do any of this :D.
