Thanks, looks interesting.
Just hope they dont only take into consideration the hardcore community as they tend to be the ones to exclude the wide spread appeal that you will need.
I have been pretty busy the last couple of years.
But lately things have freed up a bit and figured i looked into the community and see how things are going :)
Tony,im from italy,we played like 13 years ago
I was Italian q2 duel champ in 99,a friend of mine named "Crumb" called me in icq saying something "come to this server, this guy rox"
I beat you at the first match on dm1 and you Started raging ;)
The server was full of spectators flaming and i left :)
After that i remember we practiced some.
In that period i remember other champs from other country like shurik, luke and dyno i think
QL offline and QL 2012 will be exactly the same for someone like me unfortunately =/ The only time I ever play Quake is when I 1v1 a friend, so nothing will change rly. It really can't get any deader for a tdmer in NA, its like as dead as it can possibly get; 0 teams 0 leagues 0 pugs :|
What if your friend isn't online and you want to play duel?
Right now there are more duelers. Without the browser interface they will go from 500 in NA to.....1. And that's duel, because what is going to really get killed is CA, which even though we all hate it it's at least something (better than bots and running around).
I know tdm is kind of dead in the US but ctf will 100% surely die with QL, like 0 servers (as you have to upload them manually like in q3) and obviously 0 tournaments.
So yeah. It is QL, reborn or nothing, as I posted on the wsw1.1 thread that warsow is 99.9% dead (and sucks as a game too) and xonotic is kind of bad and zeroql plays it.
ok, maybe the way i wrote was confusional, but the concept is really simple: the bots are dumbed down just because they would bring away peoples from playing online, of course
Speculation? Definitely not... they even removed ztn from the standard pool just to force more peoples to buy pro, what others explainations you see? It's not that difficult.
Fact : QL's bots are dumber than Q3's bots.
Problem : Why?
Hypothesis : Bots were dumbed down to make offline play uninteresting.
Argument : ztn was removed from the standard pool to boost subscriptions.
Conclusion : The hypothesis is confirmed.
Fact : QL's bots are dumber than Q3's bots.
Problem : Why?
Hypothesis : Bots were dumbed down to make offline play uninteresting.
Argument : a lot of them, indicating that id is of course aiming to encourage online play and buying of subscriptions
Conclusion : Dunno..... we'll never know.....
maybe in 2012 they don't have the tools to make bot's A.I. better than the 1999/2000 's ones....
maybe they just cannot copy/paste the A.I. like they did whit everything else....
Maybe the implemention of better bots for the offline play could only helps and improves the online play...... Maybe they aren't aware of that problem...... Maybe to develop a decent A.I. for a game like this is too much difficulty/expensive, for a company like id, expecially when they already (almost) did it a dozen of years ago, expecially when groups of modders already did way better A.I.s for free, years ago....... but dunno.....
We'll never know...... the misteries of the universe...... truly fascinating....
cpma is like that little village where everybody knows everybody and when some outsider comes can't just get into the community cos it has a very peculiar sort of functioning. Loses more players than earning them. Village will disappear when the population disappears.
QL basically is a maxed out Q3, once its officially down I'm sure some kind modders will tailor up PQL to be as close to CPM as possible and might adding some other popular mods that didnt made it to QL yet (RA3 and Defrag comes to mind), once its done it will probably be the "ultimate Quake" game that stays as long as people willing to play it.
As much some players complain about netcode, neither OSP nor CPMA was designed with cross-country play in mind, its probably the best you can get for these circumstances. Personally i'd much welcome this change as it would finally reunite the small communities in to one game and would make some gametypes a lot more fun to play (RA3>CA).
