Seriously though, if you wanna make a difference, it's time you do whatever you want to do that will make a difference. Quit your job if needed and do it. If it works, you'll be up there. If it doesn't, too bad; at least you tried and you'll have something to tell others. If you're not confident enough to do it, then stop comparing yourself to those who took risks to achieve their goals or had great ideas that could work; they're simply not in the same category.

I feel that this is horrible advice. You're basically saying people with low self-esteem should just quit and not try to overcome it or at least to a certain extent be less insecure. There's many of person who made it to the top who didn;t have high self-esteem, just look at one of the most prominent Roman speakers (Forget his name as I cba looking him up) but he had a huge speech impediment but turned out to be one of the best speakers they had to offer.

Haters calling you "sad" are pathetic themselves. Yes, you shouldn't compare yourself to anyone and you should instead try to improve yourself in all aspects but what you're doing isn't sad. It's a good thing. You're trying your hardest to get to the top by comparing yourself to people who are also top of their field.

I for one applaud you and I myself try and do the same thing. I get complacent like any person but I do put in the work and over the past few years I have really bettered myself in an educational and personal sense.

Just keep working hard and bettering yourself and trust me the rewards will come. Just be dedicated and patient.

I did the same and I find myself do it sometimes lately.. The only one who you should compare yourself to.. is ultimately yourself!

If you want to progress in stuff like school, work, and arts for example you shouldn't compare yourself to others, well perhaps to some extent..

It's good to have set goals to aim for whether they are inspired by others but stay focused on your own progress for that goal without comparing it with another person.

Trial and error is one thing but do not forget the fun while doing things and the freedom you have to be creative in reaching the goals you have set!

There's something you should have in mind also. The most influent/important people in this world also had their share of luck and opportunities in becoming what they were/are. This doesn't mean you should let things just happen by accident, but bare in mind that everything is done with a good mix of randomness to it.
